I stole this blog title from Danielle's blog of yesterday--ha ha!!!
Anyway, I noticed Danielle got such good feedback on her question relating to a design that scored low, that I thought I'd ask the same question of Threadless on the following designs. I have the original version and the re-sub...the re-sub actually scored worse.

I am in the middle of some projects tonight but will be checking this blog tomorrow so hope to hear some feedback! Thanks guys!

I honestly think your style works better with the older generation.

I think it was the added background, it makes it seem kind of static, as opposed to the original one.

I also had a recent resub that scored lower than the original.

I definitely like the softer colors better, had an earthier feel to it - which personally I'm all about.

yeah i liked the first one as a tee...what i did though--which i always do since my original drawings are usually about 20 x 30 inches--was to finish the original off with paint so i have a potentially sell-able piece of artwork in my studio and at misc. shows...so then i tried to re-sub with the new version to see what would happen. it looks nice as a painting. i guess people just didn't like it either way, but i thought it was cool and would do better.

i'm putting my spare time into writing and illustrating a children's book these days:) i have gotten pretty discouraged on threadless. i don't feel i'll ever do well (i.e. win!!) and since i'm needing to be very focused on things that will bring compensation, i feel it is futile after so many designs!! but who knows...i've said before i'll never sub again, and occasionally i find myself breaking that promise with some new idea (like the one above) that i think will finally do well.

i think it's like a gambling addiction or something...just let me play one more round and mabye i'll get lucky. anyone else feel this way?

They are excellent paintings, I actually like the original better. However, what makes for a great 20x30 doesn't always translate well to a t-shirt. For example, I'll be just the moon shape with the wolf inside would do better alone. Simple concepts beat skills, though if you have both, usually it prints!

To be honest I agree with mezo

Welcome to Our World would be the style you should focus on, but leave the people out and do more animals like the fawn. That one was awesome and i love the style of it.

i agree with mezo too--out of experience--i kind of feel doomed on here because i AM older than probably 98% of the "kids" on here!! i don't think and create the way they do. that said, the ironic thing on this piece is that my 19 year old son actually drew the sun and stars in--he took my idea which in my sketch was shaped differently and made it much more random and spindly. that is one reason i thought maybe i had a better chance of doing well. he even liked it! we were even mother-son bickering over how we'd split the winnings if it won--LOL! since the drawing took him 30 minutes and the photoshop stuff took me hours upon hours...and since i feed him with what i earn (ha ha) i was saying i should get more!!! just a funny story here:)

Pieces was also very good, with a very printable score. I wouldn't give up if i were you, you obviously have the artistic talent, you just need the right idea.

All about me
Hi, I am a mom of two boys and from my home studio I run a full-time art business. In order to make a living at it (?!?), I offer a variety of services including fine art portraits, watercolor florals, calligraphy, caricature drawing, murals, book illustration, house portraits, custom framing and bridal bouquet preservation! My favorite commissions and work however are the portraits and watercolor florals. In 2006, I illustrated a children's book called The Model Maker: A World War II Veteran's Story.

Over the past months I have become interested in Threadless, it has proven quite addictive! I keep trying different types of designs to see how they will do...it gives me something fun and different to do on the weekends when my kids are gone and I have time on my hands. I previously had not done much pen and ink work of the type I am doing in some of my recent Threadless designs, so I am really enjoying this new medium and am incorporating what I am learning into various aspects of my other commissioned work. I feel like I am learning new things about illustration and design, and that is exciting to me as an artist! I like having my t-shirt versions, and then the large hand-done originals which I can have fun with finishing off in brilliant watercolor washes, not limited to 5 colors with no gradients:) !

I hope you enjoy my work, and I hope to interact more and more within the Threadless community over time. If you would like to visit my website, it is:
