Here is my Re-Sub
Fly - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

(First version which got dropped...)
Fly! - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

Well as I mentioned in post below, I plan to re-submit this design by revising it with part of the watercolor version of the original drawing. I just finished scanning and piecing it together, here it is...(the original line drawing was about 20 x 30 inches, and I painted it with watercolor after doing the first Threadless tee version).

it seems like i'm looking at it in the dark? personal thing but i would have preferred it looking brighter (especially the white bits that are actually grey) i like the dashed line texture a lot though

I emailed Threadless last night and asked if they could take the "!" off the title before it goes up for scoring...it's actually a more somber piece....sometimes I overuse "!"...don't know if they can adjust titles for you, maybe....

Very pretty! Would the lines be done in embroidery?

I thought I read somewhere that it takes up to 8 days for approval, but now I can't find that info. I have had a design pending approval for 7 days now. http://www.threadless.com/submission/157145/Shangri_La_Te_Da

I am getting anxious!

Good luck with your design!

when there is a contest the contest subs get approved before the regular contest subs, and it kind of throws things out of wack as far as the pending approval time.

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks!

AmyKollarAnderson that's a really cool design! Did you hand-draw and scan and color it, or was it done in Illustrator with a tablet?

heyheyitsme on Apr 02 '08 at 5:25pm
Oh, Amy...about the embroidery...I don't know...I didn't specify for that, it seems like that much embroidery would make a shirt stiff??? But I guess that could be an option if it were to be printed and Threadless thought it would look good that way. I was just thinking black dashes on the gray...

hope your design goes up soon!

You should show this kind of design on the shirt better so you can see how good it looks.

heyheyitsme
heyheyitsme on Apr 10 '08 at 8:26pm
thanks for the comments guys! yeah, J-Ray i never am quite sure how to best feature the design---i always opt to make the design maximum size, figuring people should be able to visualize it on a shirt, but maybe that isn't the case. i personally don't care too much to see it on the model figures, i'd rather see more of the artwork, but that's just me...

i'm planning on re-subbing it...i painted the original drawing with wild watercolor colors, i'm going to incorporate some of that piece into the tee shirt version and try again.

ginetteginette
ginetteginette on Apr 10 '08 at 8:49pm
for me personally, the lack of contrast was sort of a little downer with this design though i liked it overall.
ps. i like the sound of watercolours for this

I plan to use the watercolor from the inner parts and birds, but to keep the outer part which cuts into the design, showing the birds on the edge, in the navy tee shirt color, as well as the hands in navy.

any thoughts on this? i'll probably work the new tee version tomorrow night.
DaniellesGarden
   DaniellesGarden on Apr 10 '08 at 10:41pm
ok. I was thinking to shorten the length so that the top bird and the bottom bird are almost kissing, maybe instead of three side birds on the left and two on the right it could be 2 and 1. or maybe even 1 and 1.
heyheyitsme
heyheyitsme on Apr 10 '08 at 10:45pm
hahahaha Danielle!!!! methinks you ferget...i DON'T WORK IN ILLUSTRATOR!!!! Basically this would mean re-doing the whole design and I'm not that attached to it:) I just spent the last 2 hours scanning the 20 x 30 original painting in 8 sections into Photoshop and piecing it together through rotating layers and using the clone stamp, healing brush and the levels function to repair in flaws in the seams!!!!

i'll file your idea for another design perhaps:) he he!!! thanks anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
heyheyitsme
heyheyitsme on Apr 10 '08 at 10:46pm
i like the kissing birds idea:)
DaniellesGarden
   DaniellesGarden on Apr 10 '08 at 10:53pm
I think you could do it.. if you managed to use the healing brush etc. etc and piece this together I bet you could mess around with it more on the computer than you are allowing yourself to think you could.

what did i just say? I dont know, I think I said, you should give it a go. Its tough not to be flexible with things.

What might be a good idea for future subs is to scan in your sketches for your paintings and post them up for critique so you still have the option to change things.

heyheyitsme
heyheyitsme on Apr 10 '08 at 10:58pm
thanks wotto

Danielle let me give that some thought! although maybe i'll save that for a different design, as it changes the original concept i had....yeah, i'm stubborn as an artist too:) i tend to make things i like, and critique is secondary...

maybe that's why i haven't won yet--he he!!! but...as i said, i'm a stubborn one...ya gotta convince me:) i gotta think on it:)

All about me
Hi, I am a mom of two boys and from my home studio I run a full-time art business. In order to make a living at it (?!?), I offer a variety of services including fine art portraits, watercolor florals, calligraphy, caricature drawing, murals, book illustration, house portraits, custom framing and bridal bouquet preservation! My favorite commissions and work however are the portraits and watercolor florals. In 2006, I illustrated a children's book called The Model Maker: A World War II Veteran's Story.

Over the past months I have become interested in Threadless, it has proven quite addictive! I keep trying different types of designs to see how they will do...it gives me something fun and different to do on the weekends when my kids are gone and I have time on my hands. I previously had not done much pen and ink work of the type I am doing in some of my recent Threadless designs, so I am really enjoying this new medium and am incorporating what I am learning into various aspects of my other commissioned work. I feel like I am learning new things about illustration and design, and that is exciting to me as an artist! I like having my t-shirt versions, and then the large hand-done originals which I can have fun with finishing off in brilliant watercolor washes, not limited to 5 colors with no gradients:) !

I hope you enjoy my work, and I hope to interact more and more within the Threadless community over time. If you would like to visit my website, it is:
