... if you're one of those people like me who try to do interesting ones, what's the main thing you think about? How flattering the photo is to you, how good the photo is compositionally/thematically/whatever, or how much of the tee design gets in?

I've been thinking about this recently due to uploading a massive amount of pics as an attempt to dull the painful blow of the financial crisis, as I always take a couple of pics of each shirt so I can pick afterwards.

I think I'm getting increasingly artsy with these things. For example, my pic for The Ravens Cry is not all that flattering - I look dead-eyed and creepy - but so do the girls on the tee, so I picked it because it felt more in sync with the tee.

Just uploaded a pic for The Green Fairy... Took two photos, one with flash and one without.

The one with flash definitely gives a clearer shot of the design... but the darker one just feels like a better, more fitting picture, even though you can barely see the fairy. I picked the darker one - what would you have done?

Am I mad for thinking so hard about my STP pics? It's a lot of work for $1.50 (even though $1.50 is worth more than before :p). I probably expended far too much effort on this, but damn it, I had fun:

Right. Should be getting to bed now. Fervently hoping my points come in in time for me to buy the shirts I want, as they're selling out very fast...

Not having taken many pictures, I can't really say. But it's up to you. If you're not happy with it, you're not happy with it.

You do need to be able to see the shirt though, so they might not accept your Green Fairy one. Depends on how strict they're being that day.

I like to make them make sense with the shirt, but also be good photos.

I'm more concerned with theme but I'm also dating a photographer who does the shots, so he takes care of the artistic/good photo bits.

I tried to take a good Zombie pic (my default pic right now)... and I thought it was good but they didn't make it a product pic.

i don't know how they choose them... but don't worry about it. Very few people actually make it to the product pic... that's definitely with the exception of Randy :-)

I'm sad I can't submit the paisley one I did for the calendar because I can't find my receipt from the Mishmash/ store opening. :(

I have witnesses who will attest to the fact that I bought it. Does that count?

I can't submit mine from the calender because I got Mechanical Menagerie for free.

But a free shirt is better than STPs.

Whoa, comments happened while I was sleeping!

Yeah, they might not accept my Green Fairy shot (though they've accepted ones with similar levels of shirt-visibility before) - if they don't I'll just sub the other one. :)

bhoomika, your zombie pic is awesome! Pity you didn't make front page. I'm not too bothered about making front page myself any more (do they even use user-subbed pics now the official ones are so big?) - although that said, I would be very chuffed if my Beelzebub pic made it, as I put a lot of work into cutting up those octopuses and sewing them to myself... *cough*

I can't submit any of the ones I didn't order direct from Threadless, sigh. Unusual Gentleman, Superstition, Honest Tee (though that's been purged from the site anyway, so yeah), and all the random free ones I got in that contest ages ago. Might put them up somewhere at some point tho :)

Can you really not submit product pics for store-bought ones? That's weird... I would have expected them to give you some kind of receipt number to let you do it!

You people really put me to shame.

Practically all my product pics were done with me standing in one spot with a pile of t-shirts, and doing a rapid change from one to the other, pausing only adjust my hair so it's not too messy.

Any more effort and I just wouldn't do it. I'm quite embarrassed by the whole gallery but at the end of the day I just want the points.

I can't submit any pics at the moment though - they have a glitch, apparently.
Vindemiatrix
Vindemiatrix on Dec 20 '08 at 9:36am
Hehe. I do it cos it's fun. :) I do kinda do the 'pile of t-shirts' method though - this morning it was basically: pose with gun and toy cat, change shirt, pose with military hat and jacket, change shirt, pose with cushion, breathe.

A glitch? That's odd. I've been able to submit them fine... though now I'm worried they won't appear!
Krakaboom
   Krakaboom on Dec 20 '08 at 9:40am
No, mine aren't being accepted at all - 'Whoops there appears to be a problem!" and even when I give them the order number and postcode they're not recognised.

Emailed them and they told me to try again in a week or so as their 'team' is working on it.

I've got quite a few to submit :(
