about Airgyle
Now that more zip-ups are getting printed, the comparison pics I took when Living in Harmony arrived might actually come in useful for some people! So, without further ado, here we go:

This is a Large black zip-up hoody on top of a Large silver pull-on hoody. The zip-up had just been unpacked, while the pull-on had been worn and washed previously, and had shrunk a significant amount. Unless this is a difference between colours, the message is simple - zippies are a LOT smaller.

However, the size isn't the only difference. Here's a pic of the pockets:

In contrast to the way the pull-on's pocket goes almost entirely the whole way down on the diagonal, leaving a wider entrance for the pocket, the zip-up's pocket is cut off quickly from the diagonal with a vertical seam. This means that as well as being divided by the zip (unlike the pull-on), the zippy's pockets are somewhat smaller but more practical as it is harder for items to fall out of them.

Since the pic is a bit dark, just to make it clear this is how wide the openings for the zippy pockets are:

The sleeves are also different - the pull-on is more uniformly wide, whereas the zip-up has a tighter end and more of a 'puffy' effect with the rest of the sleeve. However, this may be an AA manufacturing inconsistency rather than a concrete difference between the two types.

Finally, proof that they're both size Large, and the difference between the drawstrings:

Pics of how they fit differently when worn are coming later, as the original ones I took were rubbish!

Any contributions (especially pictorial) with regards to the difference between these two types and the NEW pull-on hoodies which are custom-made by Threadless rather than AA would be appreciated. :) The size charts say they're the same as the old pull-ons but anecdotal evidence suggests they're a lot larger!

Oh, and this blog can be considered in some ways a precursor to my forthcoming massive blog about girly sizes (with special reference to the options for curvy girls), so stay tuned if you're interested!

That's pretty much the same size difference between my Musical Meditation and my Blow With The Wind. Both L.

i think i'll stick with the pull-ons.

they are more comfortable & i prefer the wider cuffs.

Damn you're good.

Bramish, so you think it's more likely to just be AA being lame-arses than a difference endemic in the two styles? I can believe that, though I'd be interested to see other owners of zip-ups posting their experiences so we can determine if there is a general trend towards zip-ups being smaller or not. :) This is what I found from my experience, so I thought I'd share in case people found it useful.

No. I think Threadless staff actually said the zip-ups run a little smaller.

Awesome, then this IS helpful! I hope people find it before they buy the zippies.

And thanks Monkey :)

thanks vindemiatrix! I'm thinking about getting the airgyle zip-up but I dislike grey. I'm still kicking myself for not buying living in harmony when I had the chance.

You're all welcome! :)

I don't like Airgyle personally, but I'm glad to see more zippies coming out - they're so much better, especially in this weather.

I am really interested in the 'curvy girl' options.. I have a girly XL on right now and though it fits its a bit tight in the chest...

I am actually contemplating losing weight to buy more shirts!

LOL! I know the feeling there! My curvy girls blog is coming soon, I promise - though right now volunteer work and making an anniversary present for my boyfriend are taking precedence ;) Just keep checking back on my blog, I guess. I'll put a link to it in my About Me section as well. :)

As for losing weight, I wouldn't do it with the sole reason for fitting into shirts, but if you genuinely feel that you're not healthy and need to be fitter, then go for it :) IMO it's more about fitness than weight, and losing weight is just a nice byproduct you sometimes have from getting fitter! Oh, and I know Threadless people are losing weight together here, so you might want to have a look...

For the Living in Harmony hoodie, would you say the dimensions are the same as what they say in the sizing chart?
Vindemiatrix
Vindemiatrix on Jul 31 '07 at 3:19pm
My L hoody measures 22.5 inches across, exactly the same measurement as the one given on the size chart. However, it HAS been worn lots, so it may have softened and loosened. I guess it's the pull-over hoodies that are really oversized!

Thanks so much for measuring it for me! I'll be ordering one in the next couple of days and since no one seems to want to do a trade, I'll give you my STPs for helping me out. :-)

Ahh, that was you! Thank you awshucks, that was a nice surprise to get unrequested STP :) Do you want to be added to my (long) list of future recipients or was the hoody info all the treasure you needed?

You're welcome! I'll never say no to STPs so if you ever find yourself without someone to point, think of me but no, you don't have to add me to your list. The hoody info was more than enough.

Thanks :) A guys' medium t-shirt is bigger than a girls' XL, but not insanely so.

I asked this question somewhere round the GE Salmon T-shirt but this blog seems more lively

Sorry if it's a little off-topic

I'm a European girly L/40 and I'm a little afraid that US L may be a lot larger then European. Does anyone here, Vindemiatrix, who has been so helpful, in particular;), know how big a girly M actually is? In inches, cm or ever bra size:)

I found this blog to be very helpful ! I think there should be size blogs showing comparisons of a bunch of sizes... Guys shirts vs girls... Girls sizes M vs L etc. Long sleeve vs. short sleeve.

I am fairly new to threadless and I have had to guess & blindly order & hope i guessed right, while erring on the side of ordering bigger than i think. I know they have a great exchange policy, but that doesnt really help if something sells out.

I know I wear a girls L (due to boobage) and I buy Mens L as oversized sleep shirts. I took a chance and bought 2 L hoodies in the recent sale, mainly bc i like my sweatshirts to fit over any other clothes i might be wearing. But i worry i may swim in them ! I'm still waiting to get them home....
