about My Turn!
I was all geared up to buy this gorgeous design on a kelly green long-sleeve, since the long-sleeve fit is so much more flattering than the normal AA fit and I adore the colour and the print... However, now I realise that even though the long-sleeves are slightly shorter in the torso than to the AA short-sleeves, they're still a length that makes the placing of this design very unfortunate indeed: a line of monsters queueing round the stomach/hips/arse is not the most favourable emphasis for the hourglass-shaped lady.

Despair? No! It has now occurred to me that, assuming the info on the product page is correct and the kids' versions are printed on the custom cut rather than the AA, I should be able to fit myself very well into a 10 or 12! And it looks like the kids' placement will be better, assuming it doesn't get buried beneath my boobs. Also, it's cheaper.

So, does anyone have any advice or anecdotes about the new kids' tees and who can/can't fit in them? I generally wear a Girly XL (loose-fitting), Girly L (more fitted but still kinda loose around the waist), or Guys' Small (surprisingly good fit, not too tight or baggy). Any other girls here who've tried out wearing the new kids' tees? (And is there anyone who's itching to jump in and tell me why I'm making a horrible mistake and why the longsleeve would be better?)

(PS: Utterly unrelated, but I am now for the first time ever using a photograph of myself as an online avatar. I have never ever done this before. :O I feel like I've passed a rite of passage...)

I wouldn't be too sure about the kids' sizes... They seem rather boxy. Then again, it may be okay for you because you are are an hourglass-shaped lady in your words (I am too).

Scratch that. I wouldn't really know because I just bought my first 5 shirts from Threadless yesterday.

I would expect them to be boxy, but the thing is, ordinary AA girly shirts are hella boxy as well - they don't curve in at all. Which is why the Large fits my boobs and hips but is all baggy and bunch around my waist. And the size charts are terrifyingly inaccurate - according to them an XL should be far too small for me, but it's actually quite loose.

Good luck with yours! :) Which designs did you buy?

lol I have small boobs, so I don't have to worry about that.

I got Motovino, Fake Pandas Have More Fun x 2(my mom picked that out for her and my dad, but I'll probably borrow it sometimes), Phascolarctos Cinereus and Magisterial Beauty.

Ohhh, okay. I thought you said you were an hourglass as well? *slightly confused*

Cool! I'm surprised Motovino is still around, I would've thought it would sell out a lot faster. And I love the halftones on Phascolarctos Cinereus!

I meant as in small waist and huge butt. Oh well... sorry for being vague.
Vindemiatrix
Vindemiatrix on Jun 01 '07 at 4:18pm
I'd call that a pear shape... or possibly a bootylicious shape ;) In my experience 'hourglass' generally implies small waist and big boobs/hips. But no worries!

BTW, when I email you the BSP tracks, do you want Remember Me or not? It's one of my faves, but since you already have access to a YouTube vid of it, I'm not sure if it would just be redundant or not.
blossompossum
blossompossum on Jun 01 '07 at 4:23pm
Well, the mp3 is usually better audio quality than the vid, so yes please. Could you also include "Something Wicked" and "Blackout"? Thanks.

If you were planning on sending the whole album, then ignore that. I don't know if you mentioned that earlier-- my brain isn't really doing its job today.
Vindemiatrix
Vindemiatrix on Jun 01 '07 at 4:31pm
Not sure the whole album will fit into a hotmail email... what's your size limit for received emails? You asked for my faves so I was planning on sending Something Wicked, Remember Me, Fear of Drowning, and then maybe attempt at sending the 15-minute masterpiece that is Lately in a separate email.

I think it's 10 MB per email.

Thanks, though. It's pretty hard to find the CDs I want in most stores.

It's sending... just... slowly...

I'm always wary of getting kids tees. You could try ordering the longsleeve AND the kids tee and just return the one you don't want...
Vindemiatrix
Vindemiatrix on Jun 02 '07 at 4:56am
What's your experience with kids' tees been? (Have you ordered any 10s/12s in that big order of your design for your friends/family?)

I could do that, but then that means I'd definitely have to return something, and then I'd have to pay for shipping a parcel to the USA: that's about £5 ($10) for the cheapest and slowest option, which is pretty much like paying for another shirt right now...

Maybe I'll email the customer service and see what they have to say...

I've emailed them but I don't know if they'll reply on a weekend.

Can anyone help with providing dimensions of the design on either kids' or standard tees?

Well, I actually haven't yet received the big order for my friends/family yet. But I did see an order placed for my co-workers and my boss got a kid's size 8. It looked just slightly smaller than a girly small, and the design was REALLY BIG on it.

bigcog on Jun 02 '07 at 4:01pm
i don't get kids sizing in the site, the AA sizing seems to be the actual size of the child, whereas custom is the t size. i've bought size 6 previously for my 2.5 yr old who is well over 3ft already, and they are long but still fine, means she'll get several years out of them. just ordered by first AA size 6 for her we'll see how that comes out.

A plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel.

I'm a girly small and ordered this in kids 8 and it fits great. I'm short and had to get the kid size because on the grown up size the design would be all scrunched up on me. The kids custom shirts aren't cut like the girly shirts--they are more boxy, but they fit short folks like me. The cotton is thicker on the kids' shirt too. If you're short torsoed they should fit fine.

Vindemiatrix on Jun 03 '07 at 11:12am
V&V, big in a good way or a bad way? Likely to be unflattering on curvy chicks or not? How about the placement? (Sorry the question-barrage...)

bigcog, good luck with that. :)

Tonteau, yup, that's what I was referencing! Cunning as a fox who was previously Professor of Cunning at Oxford University but has now moved on to post-doctoral studies in the field of cunning...

Wow, nobody replies to this for ages, and then someone replies at the exact same time as me! How bizarre...

foxmo, that all sounds good to me :) Thicker cotton is welcome, good fit on short people is a plus, and I'm sure some extra boxiness won't have much of an effect on the extreme box-o-rama that is AA... Don't suppose you'll have a product pic up before the sale ends so I can see what it looks like on someone who's not a kid?
foxmo
foxmo on Jun 03 '07 at 1:45pm
Vindemiatrix--

I sent in a pic but it hasn't been approved yet! I'm 5 feet tall and the kid shirt hits me right at the top of my hips without having to bunch it up. The design starts a bit below the chest. and stops a few inches above the hemline. I bet a kids' custom shirt would fit you fine.
Vindemiatrix
Vindemiatrix on Jun 03 '07 at 1:48pm
That sounds fantastic! :) I'm gonna order it tonight, then.
valorandvellum
   valorandvellum on Jun 03 '07 at 1:49pm
The design seemed a little bit bigger on the kids shirt than the grown up product pics. But then, it could just seem that way because the shirt is smaller and I was looking at it laying flat and not on somebody. I don't think it would be a problem on someone who's more curvy.... I think it's better to wrap around curves on the lower part of the torso than in the boobage area.
Vindemiatrix
Vindemiatrix on Jun 03 '07 at 1:55pm
If they're using the same stencil then I guess it would make sense for it to look bigger on a smaller shirt...

Anyway, I'm ordering this tonight I think, so soon your fabulicious design will be adoring my torso! :D

wotto, you could still buy one for yourself and you and your fiance could be twins. You know, 'cause it's always super awesome when couples match...

Awww. No love for the longsleeve then?
valorandvellum
   valorandvellum on Jun 03 '07 at 2:09pm
Haha, it's never enough!

Yeah, you could always convert the longsleeve into a short sleeve. Or better yet, put velcro on the sleeves so it's an interchangeable short/love sleeve!! Hahahahaha.
Vindemiatrix
Vindemiatrix on Jun 03 '07 at 2:12pm
Velcro! Hahaha, that is genius!

Or hey, do that button and flap thing like you get on some types of jeans... if you know what I mean?
valorandvellum
   valorandvellum on Jun 03 '07 at 2:18pm
Yeah, but buttoning on your sleeves takes too much work!

Hey, you won that one competition right? I'm going to be doing a rather large mail off today so if you know what prints you want, you should email me asap. Don't forget to include your real address!

Oh, okay! I would have done it this week only I was waiting to see if any more of your designs got printed before picking wall-prints... I'll have another look-over and see if I can decide!

Just to add my thoughts, I usually buy girly large or mens small for a close fit, and I just bought a 12 kids (custom) and it fits, but it's a looser fit than both the adult sizes. Still fairly form-fitting, not baggy. For reference I'm 5' and hourglassy :)
