I have a couple of ideas of things I want to make out of old t-shirts... One plan for the longer term is converting my guys' 2XL Star Men In Moon's Milk into a dress or skirt, and I was also intending to use an XL Memento Arbori I'd spotted on eBay to make a tote bag, before it got sniped from under my nose :(. However, since one of those will be very complicated and the other will be impossible until I find another Memento Arbori (let me know if you're selling!), I'm now turning to my other plan: a composite bag made out of Red Cloud Sunset and Break Free.

Break Free - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

They just seem like they'd fit really well together - similar styles, similar-ish subjects/concepts, and RCS contains the three colours used in Break Free.

So now I'm wondering - what do you guys think? Would it look good/bad/mediocre?

Right now I've got two or three ideas for how to do it... I'm thinking maybe a smallish handbag type of thing, with BF on one side and RCS on the other, with strap and separating panels in a neutral colour (probably black) , red piping on the RCS side and brown piping on the BF side.

Another idea is doing a messenger bag kind of thing, with (for example) an all-brown outside and the RCS design on the flap, with BF directly underneath it to be revealed when the flap's open, and a blue lining.

Or I could do some combination of or variation on the two, or something that you guys suggest.

Any thoughts? What type of bag would work best?

Bags have done really well in the past. Ladykat was going to try and make a quilt, I think. There's always people trying things out with threadless shirts.

Thanks for the vote of confidence :) I may have a shirt for Ladykat if I can't sell it to anyone...

Do you think the two shirts I picked would go well together on a bag?

Yay, I feel bolstered :)
I'll buy the two shirts second-hand once I get my last paycheque... hmm, now my contract at the primary school has run out, maybe I need to find a new job... once the exams are over of course!

What type of bag do you guys think would look best? One design on either side, or flap with one design hiding the other design underneath?

It's really the style of bag that I want advice/ideas on...

This would be good as a reversible or double sided tote. Lay the shirts flat and cut about a 5 inch tube off the bottom of each shirt, and then cut through each (to make two strips). From both shirts cut a rectangle 15x14 inches through both layers. Keep the layers paired, and lay the rectangles against each other, with the fronts facing in. Sew up each side.

Take each of the strips and turn in 1/2 inch on each side, then fold in half (making a 2 in strip). Place the two strips together, and put them inside the bag (still inside out) so there is a handle at the top and the end stick out the bottom. Sew the bottom, to hold them in place. Fold the top edge outwards 1 inch and sew a hem. Turn the bag rightside out, and pin the handle in position on the outside of the tote. sew along the edges of both handle strips.

I hope this makes sense.

That's a really good idea! Having it blue for some days, brown for another... And it does look like a pretty simple method, which is always good. :) Although the disadvantage would be being unable to show off both designs at once...

Thanks very much for the idea :)

You can have one side facing out on the way there, and the turn it round for the trip home. You'll look fancy! :)
