about Pie Chart
THIS SHIRT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH 4/20.

"4 and 20 blackbirds" is a reference to an old nursery rhyme in which that number of blackbirds get, would you believe it, baked in a pie.

I know! I really can't believe that more people know about some teenager's in-joke from the 1970s than they do about a rhyme which kids have been chanting since the 18th century.

I saw the birds in the pie and realized that it was the nursery rhyme. Then I saw the chart heading and realized how many people are going to post 4/20 blogs.

I'd never even heard of the 4/20 thing. Must be something american I think.

I thought about the nursery rhyme right away, and I haven't even really heard or read that.

Weird huh.

T045TBR0T on May 07 '07 at 5:43pm
Same thing Trimm... it is an american thing, wikipedia says north american, even.

But then again, I've never heard of the rhyme either, being from Germany originally xD

Still, if I had more money, I'd buy the shirt just for the 3.1415 part ^^

Both 4/20 and "Sing a song of sixpence" come from the same basic Anglo-American culture. It's not like I'm expecting people from all over the world to know them; I'm just hella surprised that people who know about 4/20 don't get that it's a reference to the nursery rhyme when it's talking about blackbirds in a pie.

THANK YOU

Four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie.

When the pie was opened the birds began to sing.

What a dainty dish to set before the king!

um- that "4 and 20 blackbirds baked in a pie" is from a nursery rhyme from people who had never heard of pot. Quit looking for refs that aren't there for pete's sake! That is rediculous
DrPangloss03
DrPangloss03 on May 07 '07 at 7:28pm
look... its just a nursery rhyme, yes... but it still says 4-20 on the shirt. which is fucking awesome.

so it doesnt matter what meaning is intended, in the end... cause people are gonna read whatever they want into it. so no interpretation is "right" or "wrong"... just some are intentional (as far as the artist goes) and some are fabricated otherwise.

and i dont know why it cant be both.

and as far as im concerned if you dont agree with me, and are gonna be all black and white about it, you can go fuck yourself because your head is clearly positioned four hundred twenty inches up your ass.

im kidding on that last bit.

but seriously, chill out.

i've actually never heard that nursery rhyme.

i didn't think it was a 4/20 reference, but I was a little confused.
Vindemiatrix
Vindemiatrix on May 08 '07 at 4:20am
shirtflirt, if you're saying that the rhyme's not as well-known in America as it is in England, than I am less surprised/freaked that people jumped straight to pot day. But I do still find it bizarre. *shrug*

DrPanglosso, sure I understand that people come up with their own meanings for stuff, and if people want to wear it to show they like to eat to pie when they get the munchies or whatever then that's fine - but people thinking that it was an intended reference to 4/20 is what I really don't get.
bigcog
bigcog on May 08 '07 at 4:24am
just to please the UK people there should have been an empty space on one with a tag saying something like "who ate all the..."

as for the 4 and 20 who gives a monkeys, i got it cos I have 2 kids under 3.

Wow, I love the way people get so worked up about the meanings of T-shirts!

Thought I'd throw an interesting thing out there, something I read recently though I can't vouch for its veracity. Apparently the rhyme used to be "black birds" not "Blackbirds", referring to that old English delicacy Rook Pie. Delicious.

(Confused Australian) Does 4-20 refer to a significant date in US history? I googled April 20 and discovered that:

-In 1775, the British began the siege of Boston Massachusetts.

-In 1999, the Columbine High School massacre took place in Littleton Colorado.

-Finally, for time- traveling historical interventionists, in 1889, Adolf Hitler was born.

I'm pretty sure you fellas aren't talking about Hitler... What ARE you talking about?

...We know the rhyme here too.

I'm gobsmacked! Never heard of it (or if Ihave it hasn't sunk in). So all the mull drongos were too stonkered with their dodgy-durry arvo bludge to remember to sing a song of sixpence...!

(For the Seppos, that's about $0.12US)

Thanks heaps, deadpuppy.
