Car crash victim trapped in 'coma' for 23 years was conscious
Paralysed patient could not move or communicate with doctors until Belgian neurologist tested new brain scanner http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/nov/23/man-trapped-coma-23-years his body was paralysed when he came round after his accident. Although he could hear every word his doctors spoke, he could not communicate with them. "I screamed, but there was nothing to hear," he said, via his keyboard. Houben then suffered years of being effectively trapped in his own body as care personnel and doctors at the hospital in Zolder tried to communicate with him, but eventually gave up hope that he would ever come round. Laureys, who is head of the coma science group and neurology department at Liège University hospital, concluded coma patients are diagnosed falsely "on a disturbingly regular basis". In around 40% of cases diagnosed as vegetative, more careful examination shows there is still some level of consciousness. He examined 44 patients believed to be in a vegetative state, and found that 18 of them responded to communication.
I hadn't seen this one before.
06:50 is my favorite part. this song is on repeat in my head. Unless you're bringing me tea. Or some soup.
So the NFL is playing a game in Wembley Stadium today. How does England feel about this? Does anyone care? Is this just seen as another annoying American thing?
Who did that?
And my b-day was a couple weeks ago. You're late.
...except not really, I actually love her. I just pretend to hat her.

Headed back to this place this weekend for some relaxation with the fam for 4-5 days:
![]() While there, I'll be able to watch the Phillies in the NLCS. ![]() Then next Thursday, I'll be at the Flyers game with my brother. Dollar Dog Night FTW. ![]() Also, in honor of my 25th birthday, I'm going out of character to do something nice for myself and spending a decent amount of money on something i don't need - two retro Irish soccer jerseys. A national team shirt from 1949 and a 1950 Shamrock Rovers. I'm still trying to decide if I want to put my name and/or number on one or both of them, but I'm gonna order them by the end of the month. So, yeah. Sweet. |
