It's a brother's tradition to go to Vermont and camp in green mountain national forest every year between Christmas and New Years. We just got back, and here is a sample of the fun.

what's the string for?

We tied it around our wrists in case we got in trouble. Somebody always held the other end to haul whoever was swimming back out if they got lost or went into shock.

Johnny Baboon
Johnny Baboon on Jan 01 '08 at 12:18pm
that's nothing. if you would of tied your hands and feet and then jumped in, now that would of been something to be proud about.
bsweber
   bsweber on Jan 01 '08 at 12:21pm
or if they jumped in with a fork or something and had to dig a new hole to get out

How is this more fun than sitting by a fire with a mug of hot chocolate?
Johnny Baboon

How?!? How?!? Real men machete their way through a malaria and vietcong infested jungle to find a chocolate tree. And then make their own authentic hot chocolate.

we actually spent most of the trip playing farkle.
Tonteau

That's awesome, I think I would have come out of the ice screaming, if I made it out at all.

I went swimming in the channel in may of this year and it was fecking freezing, my balls actually started hurting it was so could. I think sperm production went into overdrive. Still, nothing like that, though.

No, just a quick swim. It's the english disease: as soon as we get near the sea, we have to have a swim.

in retrospect, that makes a lot of sense. It took me a long time to warm up, but I was worried that I would lose my head or start breathing water or something if I jumped right in. I wanted to be sure I could control myself before I went under the ice.

wow! I cannot comprehend the level of cold that must be. Manly men, fo' sho!

on a side note- my family plays farkle too, but under the name Hot Dice. We used to call it Shit (grandma came up with it, from her experience of having a whole set of dice to roll but not getting anything and losing all your points), but my mom didn't like that too much... to hot dice it went. It's a fun game!

That scenery is beautiful, btw.

we were gonna pretend like we were doing a nature show, and then pan over to one of us doing a cannonball into the ice.
