MAYBE that little inaccuracy is what made the garden tender so very angry that he broke his rake. Now it all makes PERFECT sense.

There are historical inaccuracies everywhere, especially on t-shirts. People associate certain imagery with certain things, even if it isn't necessarily correct, hence we have stereotypes.

Actually, if you go to Osaka Castle, there are many Torii gates sprinkled throughout the grounds. One of which is just outside a boring little rock garden that is also quite serene.

And while there might be a few isolated instances of Zen rock gardens being marked by torii gates, the majority of them wouldn't be.
