so i went to the library yesterday and after having trouble finding something interesting to read on short notice, something sort of odd caught my eye.
it's a fairly small and short collection of short stories entitled "Deliver Me From Nowhere" that was put out in 2005. ![]() something about the title of the book and the design of the cover seemed very familiar as I held it in my hand, and then, of course...it hit me. ![]() and the title being from, quite honestly, one of the best written and most eerie songs of all time "Hey somebody out there, listen to my last prayer Hi ho silver-o deliver me from nowhere" ANYWAY, this book, written by Tenneseee Jones (i have never heard of this person) is a collection of stories, each one based on a different song from Springsteen's "Nebraska". Now, I've never been a HUGE fan of the Boss, but I've always adored Nebraska as one of the greatest albums ever made, so I picked this up. Turns out it's REALLY good. The writing is sparce and muscular and oily, Jones depicts the worlds populated by these characters as almost little mini apocalyptic wastelands. He doesn't even bother following Springsteens lead for several of the stories, taking a the theme of some of the songs and running in his own direction with them rather than a straight up literal interpritation. anyway, its good stuff, seemed kind of overlooked. I know this is a little long and winded, but I thought I'd share.

"Gravitation cannot be held responsible for people falling in love. How on earth can you explain in terms of chemistry and physics so important a biological phenomenon as first love? Put your hand on a stove for a minute and it seems like an hour. Sit with that special girl for an hour and it seems like a minute. That's relativity."
