  • the heating elements in toasters never really get that hot-- a few hundred degrees, enough to glow dimly if you take a peek inside.

    but for tiny filament to light an entire room, it has to be much hotter-- they average around 4,000 degrees Fahrenheit, hotter than the afterburner on an f-16.

    the only way to keep (pretty much anything) from combusting at this temperature is by keeping oxygen out.
