This keeps happening to me: I suddenly come up with an idea for a drawing. I would like to think it's inspiration that allows me to have a clear picture in my mind instantly. However, I always struggle with the idea that it's too clear and I must have seen it somewhere before. Often I will scour the internet using google image search and of course, key terms from my idea. I almost never come up with anything close at all.

I guess my questions are:
Does this happen to you?
How much work do you put into making sure you're not ripping off someone else's work?
If you put any work into it - how are you able to come to terms with it if you find nothing?

That's it. I just struggle with this a lot.

Thanks.

Yes! I do that alot because I have problems thinking that I could actually come up with a good idea. I'm always paranoid that maybe it was done somewhere out there, maybe in another dimension or something.

I don't think I stole it. I have to admit I haven't been through all of the blogs posted on threadless. There are tons!

I have had this happen to me in the past.... I came up with an idea for a threadless sub recently - an Eskimo looking thoughtful in the foreground, a half completed igloo in the background & in a thought bubble coming from the thoughtful eskimos head 2 eskimos tipping huge ice cubes from a giant ice tray... Turns out it was from a stoopid cartoon I had seen. I rediscovered it a couple of days ago... Glennz has just done a sub with a very similar theme to it.

Meh. If I get an idea that's within my abilities to illustrate, I just go ahead and do it.

When I did my first ostrichcised design, I then saw two other "secret world underground" subs with ostriches that week, and with my lumberjack design, a couple of subs with similar concepts went up for voting around the same time. I always find that collective consciousness thing slightly odd.

I haven't submitted any photos. I guess I don't want free money.
