Hey ladies!

I'm looking for your opinion regarding some language on Threadless. When Threadless first began, we had pretty limited sizing. We had a few guys' sizes, and only one size for girls - Girly M/OS (medium one size). As we expanded our sizing, we never shifted away from the term "girly" to reference all our girls' sizes.

As I've been working hard to give Threadless a face-lift (as you can see from the new homepage and submit page - more to come!), I'm thinking about changing the term from "Girly" to "Girls" so our sizing will be Guys & Girls, not Guys & Girly. Opinions throughout skinnyCorp are mixed, and there's excellent points in support of both words.

People have said that "girls" refer more to young women, teens & tweens (thereby possibly alienating older females) while "girly" refers to the style of the shirt. We certainly don't want to alienate anyone with terminology, so what's your opinion? Should we change it? Keep it? Does it not matter at all?!

Lemme know!!

I iz not a girly girl.

hmm, that IS a tough little semantic decision

you might also keep in mind that some dudes buy girly tees... although I'm not sure how much of a difference that makes, although hypothetically someone might be more inclined to buy something that is described as being "girly" rather than exclusively "for girls"

but that's kind of a stretch.

i guess maybe a better question is... what's the female equivalent of word "guys"

the word to match with guys really would be girls, though.

Girly definitely...girls does say little girls to me ,where as like you said girly describes the cut of the tee. But at the same time its not like i will get confused when i decide to order and assume that you no longer stock my size. Im not really any help am i?

I say 'Girl' and not Girly. Since it only has to do with size and fit, and not whether the shirt in itself is 'girly' or not. A girl-sized shirt isn't necessarily girlish, and I also agree with Anushka that not every girl here would see herself as a girly girl. So why use that term for shirts.

i love margo, repeating what i say, but like passing it off as her idea.

marglove, technically the boy equivalent of girly would be "boyly" - which would also be pretty entertaining!

I think girly sounds better in the end, though.

"Girly tee" has a nice ring to it. The "eeee" sounds on the end of each word. And they both sound happy.

Proof that girls are evil:

First, girls need time and money:
Girl = Time * Money

And we know that time is money:
Girl = Money * Money

We also know that money is the root of all evil:
Money = Evil ^ 1/2

Therefore:
Money ^ 2 = Evil

So we are forced to conclude that:
Girl = Evil

Girls equal time and money

That is in an equation as

girls = time + money

thus wehn time is money

it's

girls = money + money// girls = 2 money

etc etc

WRONG

thus girls donut equal evil... just smarter then boys at equations :)

i don't see how girly would be offensive so i think this is an issue of keeping threadless original, just make this one of your "things" that threadless has always done

I prefer "girly."

(I would die for one size larger -- guys medium fit me comfortably, but girly xl is too tight at the armpits/sleeves. What's up with that?)

I'd say keep girly, because it just refers to the style, rather than who should buy it.
