Illustrator problem of the day!

I always work in layers Illustrator (CS2). Normally I can cut/copy paste from one layer to another. Now somehow I can't anymore...
When I cut one object from one layer and I paste it onto another layer -- it's back on the original layer again. It's driving me crazy! Someone know what I did wrong? Maybe the preferences are messed up?

make sure you don't have "paste remembers layers" checked in the palette menu

when I checked this it wouldn't allow me to paste on other layers...

i'd never saw it either I just pushed things until it stopped working and then undid it!

Glad it worked, I really hate when stuff like that happens.

@Speedjvw - I don't use layers for simple designs. Just the ones that need more organisation I guess. It can be complex sometimes -- then it comes in handy.

you can also lock the layer you copy off of then select the layer you want to paste on and paste it

When you clicked on the option melhel mentioned, even locking layers won't help. Believe me ...I tried^^
