haha I was just thinking of this this SECOND while pondering the watercolor hate.

because there used to be a whole lot of "little things that make up one bigger thing" designs, but now they seem few and far between

2001-2007: 1 to 4 color designs.

2001- Destroying nifkins

2010 - Dom's penis

2006 to present - hand drawn

2008 to present - super detailed

Late 08-09 cats, lasers, starscapes, robots, literal interpretations of pop culture schtuff (donkey kong, mario, batman, roadrunner etc etc) or phrases (lemon-aid, No 'I' in team etc etc) large complex prints, lots of small things making up a big thing & lots of bad bad watercolour subs.

hate for "bad" watercolor, or anything "bad" is fine.
but dont let that hate overrun the good stuff.

i made that mistake a while back with fwf...
yes most of it is bad, but my fwf-hate had me eatin crow, when the ever-so-rare fwf is super great. (ex. phil)

Large-print detailed illustrative stuff is getting all the high scores right now. There is some fantastic artwork by some very very talented people. Stuff that is just impossible to give a bad score to - and a lot of it prints really nicely on the tees, but it's just not stuff that I'd wear.

It's probably self evident but the designs that I always look out for and admire are the concept designs. I love seeing what other designers come up with - in terms of thinking creatively. Buuuuut - to be honest - it's been a while since I've seen a concept that has really really impressed me. Concept designs (including some of my own) can be quite formulaic or (regrettably, imo) rely increasingly on tenuous word-play.

Glennz new stuff, however, still makes me chuckle everytime. He should sub a design for old times sake! I also think this could be solved by the re-emergence of laserbrock. He makes CLASSIC tees.

btw - I don't hate the watercolour thing. There has been some mind-blowing watercolour designs - but it is definitely of the moment.

fatheedtrendwatcher.com predicts a continuation of sim process tees but with a more bricolage/punk style as we move into the end of 2009. You heard it here first.

Pandas have always been big. Squid and octopodes were really popular for a while a couple years ago, and have been sneaking into a lot of things lately, too.

And can I just say that I am really, really tired of the concept "black and white animals... but in COLOR!" Because I am. Even really nicely done ones make me cringe a little.
