Yeah, fuck them.

I read this article in Science about ALF and a variety of animal rights groups that have begun not only threatening labs where animals are used, but the scientists at home and their families. This one neuroscientist who actually had to give up his research because "activists" [or do they prefer "freedom fighter"?] flooded his house, threatened to burn his house down, and kept banging on the windows and terrorizing his 2 and 3 year old children in the middle of the night.

What.
The.
Fuck.

I'm sorry, white rats in labs are not at all akin to the jews in the holocaust. Why the fuck are you blowing up labs and terrorizing children for a few monkeys? Usually I would insert a sentence here exonerating myself as a vegan and thus completely empathetic with animal considerations, but not now. Fuck that. I would kill as many baby monkeys as it took to cure cancer or diabetes or Alzheimer's or even a hangnail. Scientific research is 100% justified.

MOREOVER!! There was a chart of the breakdown of animal related terrorism and SIXTY-SIX PERCENT was aimed at science. WHY? Fur and Meat industries got less violent attention COMBINED??

Why do you hate knowledge, animal-fanatics? Why are you trying to destroy the great bastion of civilization? What is wrong with you?

Well, of course we're not told the entire truth. We aren't told the entire truth for a lot of things. It's just that the way you worded your argument made it sound like you believed that there was already an absolute cure-all method for cancer, and therefore research for it was pointless. I just wanted to let you know that it's not pointless and that there isn't a cure for everybody just yet.

Is this the part where we hug?

"well you're not disagreeing with me. you're disagreeing with written reports of cancer survivors'."

Disagreeing with written reports of cancer survivors would be to say that "no one can fight cancer into lasting remission, despite recent medical advances."

Disagreeing with you is to say "there still is no cure for cancer, especially not 60 years ago." This is supported by his evidence- if there was a cure, his father would not have passed away from cancer.

For the record, I agree with Ian that shirt was not factually correct when he referred to this discussion as full of facists. No one took away, nor tried to take away, anyone else's right to speak their opinion in this thread. Therefore, it's not accurate.

That would make it 2 to 1, so actualy, you're in the minority here shirt ;)

gtoast, i think you took part of the point, and created your own subpoint. which is fine.

i was defining the word argument bc it was far from one going on. when one side offers an opinion and things to back up those opinions and the second side only bashes your opinion with no real back up; that's the fascist mindset where; if you're different you're wrong. and that's the impression i get from dingo and hadley. not everyone.

and the minorty part, was in reference to ian being able to disagree and be civil AT THE SAME TIME which, around here is like trying to walk on water while sitting beneath the acacia tree awaiting enlightenment.

I just don't think that people believing that people they disagree with are wrong .. is fascist. I think you're wrong about things we disagree on. If I didn't, we would agree. But thanks for the kind comment.

gtoast99
gtoast99 on Jan 27 '08 at 2:42pm
"that's the fascist mindset where; if you're different you're wrong."
That isn't facist though. It's only facist where; if you're different, you're not allowed to speak.

Besides, where have you backed up your assertion that cancer has a cure, and has had for the last 60 years? So one side stated an opinion, the other side said you're wrong, and... well, that's it. You haven't backed up anything you've claimed in this thread, except for vague references to buffalo chips with no reliable sources to verify them.

Vonderplatiz also argues against the pasteurization of milk. Me, I kind of like my milk heated until the bacteria are killed. I also kind of like my milk without that grass flavor that comes with raw milk from a farm. Raw milk from a farm tastes like ass.

Carney - one last time. Fresh Prince of Bel Aire was a TV show, completely separate from the Cosby Show. Different. Both were funny, in their own way, and if you haven't had the pleasure of Fresh Prince, especially the episode where Uncle Phil wears all red and Will calls his Kool Aid, go out and find you some episodes.

"Raw milk from a farm tastes like ass."
That, and it's linked to causing growth deformities.

"gtoast you can't come late and expect me to get you up to speed."
No peer reviewed articles? No respected medical websites? You don't need to get me up to speed, you need to reference your claims.

It's also a fantastic way to get food poisoning, Shirt. Cases every year, even though it's nearly impossible to get. If the good doctor had his way, and it was available more widely, we'd see a lot more Salmonella, and a lot more Listeria. Pasteurization is not a bad thing.

omg Chris Carney, Carlton Banks, played by Alfonso Ribeiro, was the preppy son of judge Philip Banks of the wildly popular NBC sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, starring Will Smith as the Fresh Prince. It was similar to the Cosby show in showing a wide diversity of African American characters , including many that didnt fit classical TV stereotypes for black people. and, Carlton was a huge Tom Jones fan.
