hello all! havent been 'round in a while.
if anyone would care to help, ive got a problem. :)
so here is my dilemma.
if'n anyone wants, they can kindly suggest a digital camera that wouldnt be too difficult to navigate- im very willing to commit time to reading instruction manuals when the camera arrives-
im not too well versed in camera specs, but i think i know just enough to be alright...
in any case, i gots all this money burning a hole in my pocket that i got as a prize, figure about $1057.
im willing to spend between $0 and $700, the cheaper the price the better, of course, but im willing to lay it out for quality products.
anyway, got any suggestions?
the camera would be used for everyday junk, and just as often for photos that would represent my works for my fashion design portfolio that i am currently putting together.
i dont know if that is enough info, but if'n anything else is needed to be known, ill be glad to offer what i can.
help please? :)

get a cheap camera and a good lens. you wont regret it. i can only suggest nikon and canon, though i'm sure some other brands are alright.

go to a camera store and play around and see which camera feels the best to you.

If you want a good, practical, point-and-shoot, I've heard good things about the Canon Powershot G9.

im seeing that these suggestions are falling into the cameras i was playing with...

i was thinking of the canon rebel, the g9, the nikon d40 and d80.. and then i considered olympus, which as far as ive heard isnt bad at all.

just out of curiosity though; how are fujifilm cameras?

i find that a vast majority of their cameras are significantly lower in price than others, and was wondering if that was because of poor performance?

go to a store and listen...but don't listen too much because they have an agenda and they'll want you to buy something and they'll want you to buy specifically what they have excess in stock of or what they get a deal from the manufacturer. Definitely figure out what you want a camera for.

i know that i really am depending on it most for taking strong quality photos of clothing/apparel designs.

mostly indoor settings, although i dont see that changing much.

the g9 seems to have gotten better reviews than most that ive seen for compact cameras-

i do plan on going to a store to physically check out the cameras, that is for sure.

If that's all you're going to be using the camera for, I wouldn't drop the money on a DSLR. A good point-and-shoot coupled with a tripod would probably do fine. This is just my 2 cents though, I'm no photographer, so don't take my opinion as fact.

i know that it seems ridiculous, but i want to invest the money since i have the opportunity-

i am otherwise very poor.

see, this is the problem!

i suppose ill try to discuss this with my brother...thanks so much for all of you that gave me some advice :)

I've had a fujifilm finepix e550 (point and shoot) for almost 3 years now, and the only problems I've had with it are entirely my fault (the mechanical lens cover stopped working for a while because I got water/sand on it, but then started working again when it fell against my mom's water cooler, haha). It has a better macro than my d40x (because I haven't bought anything that would enable me to really take macros, haha- just realize that lenses are expensive if they're worth anything, and there really aren't one-size fits all things with lenses, unless you never take up-close shots or far-away shots).

I have a nikon d40x with two lenses, and it's pretty nice. I'd like a better zoom, but I'm not willing to spend any money until I earn more/go to Bonnaroo next year.

Also, maybe look on craigslist. I've seen some stuff on there that almost makes me salivate, and if you can pick the camera up as opposed to having it shipped and hoping that it isn't messed up somehow, that is probably the best way to do things. Good luck with your decision-making!

just in case anyone is interested, i finally got my hands on a camera.

i ended up with the canon powershot g9, after a lot of trouble to get it.

methinks it was well worth it, and it seems as though this camera will be around for a while.

thanks to everyone who helped!

Whenever Richard Cory went downtown,
we people on the pavement looked at him
He was a gentleman from sole to crown
Clean favored and imperially slim

And he was always quietly arrayed
and he was always human when he talked
but still he fluttered pulses when he said
Good Morning, and he glittered when he walked.

And he was rich, yes richer than a king.
and admirably schooled in every grace.
In fine, we thought that he was everything
to make us wish that we were in his place

So on we worked, and waited for the light
and went without the meat, and cursed the bread
and Richard Cory, one calm summer night,
went home and put a bullet through his head.
