Initial sketch done on scrap paper...

My blue pencil mock up of it...thinking about putting a hint of the cottage in the background.

Ink! I'm doing the background as a different layer so I'm inking separately.

Working in Illustrator now - I've Livetraced all my inked layers after scanning them and I'm separating the layers.

Still testing out colors - Need to mock it up on a tee and I'm considering adding an oval shaped frame of thorns/roses...but haven't made up my mind yet. I think it may look better as an illustration with the frame, but worse on the shirt.

As per your excellent comments I am trying to weaken the color a little bit to match Magritte's palette a little more. Still working but thinking this version is an upgrade. You?

As per all your suggestions I'm trying to work up a digital painted version. So far I'm sampling direct from Magritte...the colors will need to be altered but we'll see...

I threw a background in now (roughly for now) - I'm adjusting colors and still have quite a bit to go. I need to put in the background and do the dress and the bird as well. Hopefully darkening the color will help avoid any Disney legalities. I'm going to brighten the red just a tad though...

Still working...

Getting fairly close to being finished. I masked out the layers and colored them in so they were no quite as harsh, I think it's working to emphasize the paintedness of it.
I'm going to mock it up on a tee next (should have done that LONG ago!)

SUBBED!!!!
