In 3 more hours, I'll be 21 years old.
I should be going to the bar in 3 more hours and getting schwasted, right?

Instead, I'm working on a position paper for my Insects, Globalization and Stability class.

Should African nations be allowed to use DDT to eradicate the malaria virus? My TA says we need to have a damn good reason to say no, so I'm going to risk my grade and try to say no. Hopefully it's good enough.

What retarded thing are you doing tonight?
What could you be doing that's better?

Ambiguity is sometimes more genius than being specific.

Awesome, though you should probably be celebrating it a little better...

I'll probably be in the chats later tonight.

Something better would be talking to people in person.

Ok, so here's your answer for your TA.

Yes. And no.

Should they be allowed to use DDT to eradicate Malaria. Yes. Will using DDT eradicate Malaria? Maybe. But it also may eridicate many species of insects and birds, thereby throwing off the sensitive balance in the African ecosystems. The use of DDT cannot be quantified, nor can it be said that it will only do one thing. Then quote Rachel Carson's Silent Spring (goggle if you don't know) which was a book largely about the use of DDT. Incidentally, DDT is now illegal for use in the US because of all the harm it did here. Hope this helps!

I agree with berrynoir!

Or you could argue for letting evolution take its course and letting all the weak Africans die... so future Africans will be malaria-proof :D

haha..I'm being facetious in case you're considering it!

Man, that sucks how America makes you wait to drink legally.

It was really weird sneaking round drinking when I visited.

HAPPY B'day in three hours though!!!!

berrynoir: That's kind of where I'm going with it. I'm also talking about cancer risks and how the EU has threatened not to purchase crops from African countries using DDT.

tobasco: Sneaking around to drink is half the fun! It's the part I'm going to miss most. No risk for MIP's (minor in possession) will be a nice tradeoff though.

Right - and there are vaccines and drugs that don't have such high-stakes risks. You go! :)

that's fair enough!

Young people drink. Fact. It just differs how they get their alcohol!
