It is an incredible feeling having something, a drawing, a thing that is part of me out there in the world for people I will never meet to wear. What a cool thing this threadless experiment is.

The shirt started as a drawing, inkwork for a little patch of wall in my hall between my kids bedrooms. It is simply an effort to pay homage to the rich history of classic fables.

ABOUT THIS BLOG:

8-9-08 - (the afternoon after subbing design)
Day 22 of collaboration of horror aka submission day

DESIGN STATS:
- 7 color standard screen print plastisol inks including the superglow ink
- the yellow color in the shirt is a combination of the white ink base layer and the glowiest superglow ink threadless has - which during lighted conditions just has that spooky yellow color
- every single monster has linework and or elements that uses the shirt color (dark gray) combined with the gaps between the monsters act to break up the ink across the entire shirt - preventing the "iron on effect" and stiffness
- printed on the shirt as large as threadless can print it

this project evolved completely in this blog, if you take the time to read all the pages of comments you will see the process and development of the collaboration. Or just read this summary -

less than three weeks ago I posted a blog about brainstorming for halloween designs (cause of print lag it would need to be subbed now) and fatpigeon suggested a collab.

It was determined quick that ANYONE could participate - even those who could not do the processing but could still put pen to paper. Threadless enthusiasts got to work drawing monsters. Jayraws, Fatpigeon and myself processed and colored the monsters who were just linework - i think it was over 30 monsters that needed coloring.

It was also determined quickly that in the event that this shirt prints - the full prize would be divided up between all the participants for use in purchasing the monster mash shirt - so no-one involved had anything more to gain from the project than being a part of a massive creative ball of awesomeness, and then to have the t-shirt to prove it.

After a short 2 weeks of accepting monsters we had 67 total participants and almost 100 monsters - Alumni, unprinted, bloggers old and new - the collaboration grew so fast - and everyone was so fun and dialed into the whole idea.

I have never dealt with a more agreeable group of people -

The third week was me sorting and compiling the shirt -
It really put itself together, and demanded stickers along the way -
and JW contributed his fancy FLASH wizardry for the final touch -

thanks EVERYONE - ALL THE MONSTER MASHERS need to pat yourselves on the back for this AWESOME shirt - it is truly greater than the sum of its parts -

here's to one HELL of a shirt - and the true awesomeness of the threadless community!

thanks to everyone who has participated - this project is panning out to be far beyond anything I could have hoped for - What a testament to the threadless community that in a short two weeks we would have close to 100 monsters, many of which would make excellent designs by themselves - threadless rocks!



as of 11:30 sunday night - here is a teaser of the main monster file - I am using this as a full sheet color corrected list - it has every monster is in a layer labeled with the creators name - the file is 17 by 30 600 dpi - most all the monsters were placed in at their actual resolution - some made bigger -

when putting everyone in here i also kept in mind potential layout for the design - so as I continue to work this file it will be one of three different optional layouts I am planning - this one being like a sticker sheet -

this evolved from a halloween collab discussion with fat pigeon -

HALLOWEEN COLLABORATION OF HORROR!!

We are gonna do a halloween collaboration - ala black rock -
like we all draw monsters then mash them up into one glorious shirt

no limit on participation - the more monsters we get the more convoluted and awesome the monster mash gets

Also - no worries about type or style here - the more participants with varying styles - the better overall it will all mesh - also, do not worry about who is doing a vampire or werewolf - cause duplicate monsters are anticipated and welcomed -

PLUS! - if you cannot do the photoshop or illustrator coloring jazzing etc. - NO PROBLEM - just draw a nice clean drawing in pen (or pencil then trace in pen and erase pencils) scan then email me the linework - myself and Fat Pigeon are gonna do the finish work for peeps who kinna do it - so really there are NO EXCUSES!!
