Usually how long does a dye job last?
How much does it cost?
Can you go from a dark brown to a light brown?

Depends on the type of dye you purchase - some are meant to be permanent, where as others are meant to go away after a few washes. Going lighter is always more difficult than going darker, usually a bleaching agent is needed.

You can go from any shade to any shade. The lasting effect varies on whether its a professional job or a store bought dye.

May I HIGHLY recommend going to the salon to get it done. They will do it properly

If you want to go lighter do it at the salon!! What Tash said about the bleach is true. And its not something you should really do yourself cause you can totally fry your hair.

A few months ago I tried to dye my hair to a darker shade of brown, like a mahogany almost, and the dye was like BLACK on my head and then I rinsed and all that good stuff and, lo and behold. MY HAIR WAS LIGHTER!!! WTF!!

I hate boxed dye

you can get for less if there are any beauty colleges around where you live? the only downside is it'll take longer...'cause they have to get everything checked off

Lishy McLishums
Lishy McLishums on Jan 07 '08 at 5:09pm

shampoo cleans your hair
Lishy McLishums
Lishy McLishums on Jan 07 '08 at 5:09pm
Apparently you shouldn't wash your hair everyday cause it dries it out, but I wouldn't condition if I didn't wash.

Its like putting lotion in your hair.
t4sh
t4sh on Jan 07 '08 at 5:10pm
yeah, you need to CLEAN the dye out of your hair, and off your scalp

Do u have REALLY dry hair??

ianrose
ianrose on Jan 07 '08 at 5:12pm
I only wash my hair like once every three days. I'm lucky I got my mom's hair, no oil, not my dad's hair, grease central.
mezo
   mezo on Jan 07 '08 at 5:12pm
That's your hair over producing oil because you're washing it out daily, lishy.
Lishy McLishums
Lishy McLishums on Jan 07 '08 at 5:12pm
ITs prolly cause of all the conditioner you use silly.
Lishy McLishums

mezo
   mezo on Jan 07 '08 at 5:14pm
You have to retrain your hair is all, lishy. Mine is really oily, but not nearly as bad as it used to be when I shampooed daily. Now I shampoo maybe 3 times a week.
Dan in The 518
Dan in The 518 on Jan 07 '08 at 5:14pm
My hair gets really oily when I sleep and then dries out terribly when I shampoo. So the conditioner makes my hair soft without drying, but I didn't know if this was bad or not.
mezo
   mezo on Jan 07 '08 at 5:15pm
Also, hair product will make your hair produce more natural oils since product typically has alcohol/drying factor in it.

I just went to the salon, and i'm fricken pissed......

I got an all over color job, because i was sick of my hair being 5 diffrent colors from bad box dye jobs done by me....
50 dollars later and a shower, and my hair is instead of 5 colors, 4..... awesome
Lishy McLishums
Lishy McLishums on Jan 07 '08 at 5:15pm
Well, I gotta try to get into that habit. Thanks Mezo. Good looking out !!
ianrose
ianrose on Jan 07 '08 at 5:15pm
Indeed Lishums. I make up for it by having ridiculously, inhumanly fast-growing facial hair, with 5 o'clock shadow by early afternoon. Everything evens out.
mezo
   mezo on Jan 07 '08 at 5:15pm
If you use product, don't use it in your roots.

Also, when you wash, try to wash ONLY the roots, and condition ONLY the ends.
Lishy McLishums
Lishy McLishums on Jan 07 '08 at 5:16pm
Ouch Tess, that sucks... You should go back and have them re-do. At the salon I go to you have like a two week grace period to go back and get it fixed for free. You should look into it.
t4sh
t4sh on Jan 07 '08 at 5:16pm
Tess, I'd sooooo be going back and demanding a re-do free of charge
mezo
   mezo on Jan 07 '08 at 5:17pm
Should a good color job have more than 1 color in it anyways so it looks more natural, since natural hair has different tones?
Lishy McLishums
Lishy McLishums on Jan 07 '08 at 5:17pm
Yea, my ends are dry as hell. I think it also has to do with the fact that my hair dresser uses that fuckin slicing thing which is a huge cause for split ends. Me no rikey.
sonmi
   sonmi on Jan 07 '08 at 5:18pm
with shampoo, you don't really need to wash all of your hair, just the roots (though this depends on how long your hair is). then when you rinse your hair out, the shampoo that runs through should clean the ends sufficiently without drying them out. similarly, when you condition, you want to stay near the ends, and avoid the roots, because that can make your hair more oily.

i don't know if anyone was asking these questions
sonmi
   sonmi on Jan 07 '08 at 5:18pm
oh... i guess mezo just summed up my post more succinctly.
mezo
   mezo on Jan 07 '08 at 5:18pm
The razor? If used properly, it should ruin your ends.
Lishy McLishums
Lishy McLishums on Jan 07 '08 at 5:18pm
Well, I think they may attempt to put high and or lo lights to make the tones vary...other than that i think it should be overall the same colour no?

hahah question with a question.
