Score 1 for evolution!

Scientists Discover Fish in Act of Evolution in Africa’s Greatest Lake

In what could be a first in the world, a fish species known as cichlids has been observed by scientists in the act of splitting into two distinct species in Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest lake and one of the world’s biggest fresh water bodies.

This may be remarkable because what is causing them to diverge are adaptations to their vision as animals and plants try to cope with increased pollution and the effects of climate change. The change is also happening without geographical isolation, which was thought to be a precursor for evolution.

This is the first movie I've really badly wanted to see in a very long time, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is about a man born in his 80's and ages backwards, it's set at the end of the first world war through to the early 21st century.

The trailers are amazing:

Its actually visually stunning.

Ok so last night I was working as a PA on a comedy festival (it was hella fun so check out my other blog about the crazyiness), after we all packed up we headed out to an irish bar for the after party and I got talking to a make up woman who worked the show.

I told her I have to get the bus and that only one bus runs in the morning then theres nothing until 4pm so she told me I can borrow her car. She's always away in fact shes going to be gone till christmas and its just sitting on her drive.

Now this woman was drunk and the next thing she asked me was if I wanted to drive up to saskatoon some time this week, watch a film being edited and smoke a lot of pot. So I was taking it with a pinch of salt.

She rang up the office today and asked if I still want the car, I'm getting it sometime this week.

Life is good.

As most of you know already I'm british and as a brit I normally inhabit the UK, its my natural surroundings. Recently I moved out to Regina Sasktechewan to intern over at a film company and so far its been pretty cool. I get to work in an industry I love, I get to be in an awesome country and I get to hang out with my amazing friends.

The last couple of days have been insane.

I'm an assistant editor most of the time, what this means is I download all of the tapes produced for shows onto a computer, I make notes on whats happening in a tape then I give it over to an editor so they can draw out the main points easily and put together an episode.

Its ok but all it really means is I sit in an office watching eight hours worth of tapes a day which gets kind of dull.

The last couple of days I got to escape the office and go work at a comedy festival!

The first couple of days I was shooting a celebrity (stand up comedians) poker game, each stand up was on a different table with members of the public then it eventually got whittled down to the winner.

Friday I got to shoot an award ceremony for the canadian comedy industry, it was kind of funny because almost all the winners didnt actually show up.

I started work at 7 am finished at 10 pm but it was worth it because I got offered paid work as a PA (personal assistant) for a live taping of a stand up comedy gig on sunday night! (I've been interning so I havent got paid)

After that I got home and headed straight out to the bar, which was pretty decent.

Saturday night we went over to a friends house to help with shooting for a class project then got a call that there was a house party, I had to be at work at 7am (which meant up at 6am) so I wasnt too keen on going but my friends only wanted to stay for a couple of hours so it was a case of fuck it if I always go to bed early I'll never do anything.

So we partied hard for 45 minutes then left.

Plus I got to do my hey I'm british, I'm out her because routine, everyone knows me at my uni accomodation so no one really cares which is good at times but occasionally its nice to play up to the celebrity type deal.

Got picked up at 6:30 am by my boss, then drove to the hotel where everyone was staying then I drove a bunch of crew over to the casion whilst my boss drove a cube van.

I felt geeky because I felt so cool having radios and back stage passes.

Worked for a couple of hours then went home for call back at 5:30pm, then we got to meet up the comedians we'd be looking after.

Sean Cullen, DeAnne Smith, Peter Anthony, David Merry, Jennifer Grant and Derek Edwards.

I had no idea who they are but apparantly their pretty famous.

Sean Cullen guessed where I live just from my accent, which is insane because people who have lived their entire life in the UK can never work out where I'm from just from my accent.

Got to see parts of the show, it was very funny, the best stand up's I've seen.

Then we went to the after party at an irish pub near the venue, highlights include:

A make up artist told me I could have her car because shes going to be in vancouver until christmas, then asked if I wanted to go to saskatoon, watch someone edit a film, then smoke a lot of pot.

A girl walked up to me and asked: are you from tennessee?
Me: nope I'm from england.
Girl: Well your the only ten I see.

Then she walked off, didnt see her again.

People kept buying me pints so I had a free night.

Met a girl who worked on fantastic four 2, she got to tell Jessica Alba her ass looked big in a pair of jeans (she took Jessica Alba Jean shopping in vancouver).

Oh and I spent about an hour talking to Derek Edwards who's a very cool guy, were told to kiss people's asses even if they didnt do well, he told me he didnt like it makes him feel like a baby.

I'm so used to getting up at 6am to go to work I've woken up at 8am and I feel like I've had a lie in.
