I'm a little bit tipsy so this will probably come out badly but doesnt anyone else enjoy reading non fiction?
Its just at times I feel kind of alone because everyone else seems to feel that history, sociology, economics and physcology are boring. Just today my sisters friend told me who wants to know about the past. I couldnt be bothered argueing because she would most likely be set in her conviction that history is dull just as much as I am that its not. I think I enjoy reading non fiction because it casts a light on just how amazing out world is weather it be how the internet is changing how we live or how the british empire (and its form of democracy) came to dominate the world. Right now I'm reading the The ascent of money a finanical history of the world by niall ferguson probably my favourite historian. He in it he discusses how we developed the concept of money and made it into what it is today (I bought it yesterday, only on the first chapter but towards the end he discusses the finanical crisis). What I really enjoy about non fiction is that (good) non fiction makes you look at something you took for granted then re think it and realise just how astonishing it really is. In the ascent of money ferguson explains that money, be it metal, paper or dots on a screen 'is a matter of belief, even faith; belief in the person paying us; belief in the person issuing the money he uses or the institution that honours his cheques or transfers. money is not metal, it is trust inscribed We are taught to believe that if we work we will be given money which can be exchanged for goods or services, the fact that it works at all is amazing, that we all accept that, that piece of paper is worth a dollar and be exchanged for goods that equal that value. I've never thought of money like that, I've always taken it for granted and thats the mark of good non fiction, something that compeletely changes my view on a subject and makes me go wow. Does anyone else enjoy reading non fiction?
I was wondering if anyone else followed internet comedians? I dont mean viral videos that pop up from time to time then die, rather the people that produce consistent work and release regularly.
My two favourites right now are Jake and Amir and Smosh. Jake and Amir is an on going web series that has a sort of continuity per episode but the only thing you need to know is Jake and Amir work together. Amir is obsessed with Jake and Jake hates Amir, oh and Amir is odd. Smosh on the other hand follows Anthony and Ian, two best friends who are highly imature (to the point where their basically small children with all privlages of being an adult), as with Jake and Amir you dont need to watch them in order (though some episodes do have continuity). Its also pretty amazing because these guys started out by making a horrible video of the pokemon theme tune which became the highest viewed video on youtube before it got taken down.
Lately twitter has decided that I am in need of porn, I dont know exactly what I said that made them think that (maybe it was the talk of zombie babies) but what the hey.
But its kind of full of fail... FloyMccarthy says: My boyfriend treats me like shit so I need someone else to treat me right and fuck me well ![]() Do not want. I wish I knew what they were saying, p.s in the second video the white house explodes oh and the statue of liberty is on the lawn.
I wish my dreams were more interesting, almost every dream I've had are possible but unlikely to happen.
case in point A couple of days ago I dreamt I was argueing with my sister, the argument went something like this: Sister: Phil, do we have an ice cream scooper? Me: you know we dont have an ice cream scooper. Sister: Oh Cath (her friend) has an ice cream scooper, its the most amazing ice cream scooper in the world. Me: Well if Cath's ice cream scooper is sooo amazing then go use her's. Then I stormed off. Or Last night I dreamt I was mistaken for someone auditioning for a musical, I was supposed to be a production assistant but got shoved into a musical boot camp despite my protests. I dont exactly know what happened yet but I get the feeling I didnt pass the audition, which was some what predictable because I hadnt read the script, learnt the songs or the dances. Why its based in reality? my previous work experience has been as a production assistant and I've helped out with auditions. Also my friend is a dancer. My dreams are boring, I want to fight monsters or save the world, instead I have arguments about ice cream scoopers or play out episodes of a bad sitcom. I dont know why but I'm really weirded out hearing pikachu's voice coming out of a woman. |
