Thank you for getting the Graphic Artists Guild to repeal its support for SOPA.

For those that dont know Jake got into a little argument with the guild on twitter when they announced their support for the SOPA act.

"@gaguild if you guys really believe in it, where are your giant "SUPPORT SOPA" campaigns to combat all the people fighting it? cc: @skaw"

@gaguild we help thousands of independent artists pursue their dreams. 1 bad apple uploading a copyright design and whole thing's shut down.

well skaw just tweeted jake with this.

"The mission of the Graphic Artists Guild is to protect the economic interests of its members. One of the ways we strive to help artists succeed is by watching what's happening in Congress. When a bill is introduced, we analyze it, and try to determine if it will either help or hurt artists.

When SOPA was first introduced, the idea of stopping online piracy was a good one. Piracy affects the livelihood of many of our members, and so we took a proactive stance for it. However, we are no longer positive about where the bill is headed as it works its way through committee meetings.

We are concerned that the bill may have unintended consequences that may do more harm than good.

At this time, we are withdrawing our support for SOPA. We apologize to any artists who felt betrayed by the actions of the Guild. We're doing our best, fighting for you.

We further want to thank everyone who has emailed or Tweeted the Guild expressing dissent. Your comments helped us decide to take another look at the bill and to withdraw our support at this time. For the record, we have not spent a dime on any lobbyist in Congress for this bill.

Please feel free to continue this dialogue through twitter at @gaguild. Together, we can continue to fight for artists’ rights. It’s something the Guild has been doing for over 44 years and we’ll continue to do so for years to come.

All the best,

Haydn S. Adams
National President "

Its a small step towards getting this terrible and destructive bill from being passed so thanks.

I'm sure they do a lot of amazing work and I understand where their coming from but SOPA wont have any effect, the people that pirate, the guys their really worried about are going to keep on doing it because they really dont care, that or they live in a country where the copyright laws are more relaxed.

The only people it hurts are the people who use the internet fairly.

but go daddy are just douche bags:

Check out this quote from an interview posted yesterday on TechCrunch:
[GoDaddy CEO] Adelman couldn’t commit to changing its position on the record in Congress when asked about that, but said “I’ll take that back to our legislative guys, but I agree that’s an important step.” But when pressed, he said “We’re going to step back and let others take leadership roles.” He felt that the public statement removing their support would be sufficient for now, though further steps would be considered.
So, GoDaddy hasn't gone on the record to oppose SOPA, and now they've made it clear they're still officially supporting it. In my opinion, the "we no longer support SOPA" statement released yesterday seems to be just a calculated PR move.
I'll still be moving all my domains.

it's convenient for me that my domain and hosting is set to be renewed in January. I'll be moving everything also.

Anyone recommend some good hosting services other than godaddy?
