So theres a tiny possibility that I might bew moving to London in the coming months, I was wondering how expensive it is to live there?

I applied for a job that pays £25,000 a year with bonuses that can take it up to £33,000 a year.

To me that sounds like a lot of money but rental properties are fairly cheap around here even in big cities like manchester.

I dont want to be just getting by, I also want to be able to save money.

The job is in the west end of london but I'm guessing I wouldnt actually be living there because of the price (but I have no idea).

I'm trying not to get my hopes up but I'm also trying to be realistic.

I've never really been to london, I've been to the airport and thats it but I've pretty much come to the realisation that if I want to get into the media I have to go to london, staying up north hasnt really worked out.

You could live happily on that. London is expensive, but I think everyone should live here for a bit if they get the chance. It's such an awesome city :)

Rent would very much depend where you chose to live, do you have any thoughts? Any friends in parts of the city that you would want to be near? A tube line for work that would be handy?

That is a good wage for living in London.

Expect rent to be between £400 to £1000 per month depending on what your needs/expectations are.

If your bills are inclusive, that could be handy - but if not, then your bills and utilities might be £50 a month. Ballpark!

Travel with an Oyster card costs between maybe £20 a week - more if you have to catch a train in from where you live.

I would recommend looking in SE1 area where we live. East London is also a good area to look in - but the other side of the city to where you will be working. Do you know the postcode of your workplace?

The Rakes tune is about 5 years old now, so we need to think about inflation

I was wondering about inflation. The guy in sales is on 28 and that impressed a girl, so if you can get the bonuses to 33, that should be good right?

In all honesty the only people I know that live in London are you threadless peeps, other than holidays abroad I havent spent much time outside of the north.

I'm basically looking for something affordable thats not too far away from work, the companies post code is W1S 1JU.

But I'm happy thats a good wage to live off in london and I'm kind of excited about the possibility of going down there, its never been something thats interested me before but I live in cheshire and its nice but its a slow pace of life and I need a change.

SJ, are you in the UK? I thought you lived in new Zeland.

SJ27 on Jun 29 '10 at 10:53am
No, sorry, they're just song lyrics.

This girl from work, looks alright
But the lights are too bright
Bloke in sales likes her too
What am I supposed to do?
But he's earning 28
And I'm on 22
It's alright, it's alright
In the city it's alright

Ok SJ I get it, thats an amazing amount of detail for a song.

Abigail thats awesome, if I get the job we can hang out.

Realistically though considering the company theres going to be a lot of competition for the job and I'm not even sure I'm cut out for it.

But atleast I'm trying now.

Dan you think so? I guess it would be pretty easy to blow alot of money in a city like london.

What's the job, Phil? Obviously, given the company (assuming google didn't let me down) it will be competitive, are you reasonably confident?

Honestly, you can live on £25k (I do) and save your bonuses. Am I right in thinking that you don't drink? That's a big saving straight away. And if you can use buses like I do, travel is roughly £50 per month - give or take.

if I get the job it would be working in the classified section, basically the job is to get companies to buy advertising space.

I have a good CV, theres not alot of employment experience on it but I'm applying for a graduate training program so thats not a big issue, I feel like I make up for that in other area's that are fairly impressive like working in canada.

As for the drinking, I do but I tend to go months without touching a drop then having a big weekend then I've had my fill.

I think I just need to learn to be more controlled with my spending.

I never earned more than 17k a year for the 9 years I lived there, and my rent averaged about 350 a month, with bills on top. I still managed to go out and enjoy myself, have a holiday every year, and was never struggling for cash, although I never managed to save a penny.

Good luck!
