P.S I really want to be a mega fan boy and buy a plumtree tee shirt, the band is selling them on their website but they only ship to canada, can anyone help me out?
As soon as I watched the first trailer I went out and bought all the comics that had been released, its amazing how faithul they've been to the feel of the books.
Its every day situations but done through the lense of a video game.
I love the little details they put in like the pee meter, or when he gets a life.
Dunno, this looks like an Edgar Wright version of a "director of Kung Fu Hustle" movie. Not that that's a bad thing, but I heard such amazing things about this comic and movie, and it kind of looks like another cheesy comic book tinged indie rock flick...it is fun to see a George Michael/Anne reunion tho, haha.
There's lines like "that was epic", random nonsensical video game imagery for seemingly no other reason than to appeal to video game nostalgics, pee meters???, and michael cera is REAAALLLLY wearing thin on me.
Maybe I'll warm up to the idea if it gets a couple good reviews but...maybe I'm getting too old and grumpy for my own good, lol. I love Edgar Wright with all my heart tho.
Sorry, I know this won't be a popular opinion and I hope y'all enjoy the movie and tell me it's not as paper-thin as it looks.
I'm really really excited about this movie and I was initally supprised by that because of the track records of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.
When the group is together they produce amazing work, spaced, hot fuzz and shaun of the dead but apart their work has been lack luster at best Nick frost stared in Hyper drive, a red dwarf rip off and simon Pegg worked on such classics as run fat boy run and How to Lose Friends and Alienate People.
Edgar Wright hasnt really worked on anything since Hot Fuzz so I was worried that he'd end up suffering from the same problem as his other collaborators, united they stand divided they fall.
But going from all the trailers and othe rpromotion material I dont think thats going to happen.
Watching the trailers Wright has packed in an amazing amount of detail from the comics and the random details like the pee meters, or Scott getting a 1-up? well their in the source material.
Scott Pilgrim is almost a parody of a micheal cera film, set in a video game version of Toronto. In fact the first trailer they released deliberatly played up to the micheal cera sterotype. It looks like a typical cera indie film right up until the point where the narrator says "have you ever loved someone so much it hurts".
I know cera plays the same role over and over again but honestly he does it so well that I dont care, that and I think he plays a role alot of us can actually related to, he's never rich, he doesnt have the best car in the world, infact he's never all that exceptional at what he does (his bands are always medicore at best) but he tries to change his life for the better, it.
It just takes him a little while to realise that.
In one of the previews I read they argued that as far as comic book movies go, Scott Pilgrim is far, far more relevant than the marvel fare their digging up such as Captain america.
We dont live in patriotic times and our enemy isnt obvious, do we really need a tights wearing hero to save us?
I love the use of the word epic, its mocking the typical summer movie blockbuster tag line, the actual story line of scott pilgrim isnt epic atleast not in the sense that they dont go treking all over the world, or the galaxyor universe trying to save it.
Its just a couple of 20 somethings falling in love.
I'm not saying that in any mean way, honestly. I just support the fuck out of it and it's an extremely fun read. :):)
The reason for all the hype is because judging from all the trailers, every fan feels at ease seeing that the adaptation looks very reverent. I admit there are parts I felt awkward about (the word "epic"), but 99% of what I've seen has made me giddy.
As for positive reviews, early screenings has been more than positive, including thumb-ups from Kevin Smith, Tarantino, and Shigeru Miyamoto.
The video-game and manga effects are so right for this film, because they were so right for the books. I can't really explain to you how until you read them. It's a tongue-in-cheek kind of humor that suspends disbelief and allows people to enjoy it even more.
