So my sister is going on a study abroad program in august, she'll be studying at a college in mississippi.

Anyway my sister wanted me to ask all of you what sort of clothes do girls wear? whats fashionable for girls at university?

She was also worried about the heat.

If you could give her any advice I could pass on that would be greatly appricated.

thanks.

tell her she is better off being herself, the last thing she wants to do is blend in with dumb college freshman girls around here

Luckily most college kids are pretty cool about accepting other cultures and shizz.

The overseas kids that stay at my school are pretty well received with them just being themselves.

Also, I would be the worst with fashion advice. My school is a bit different: flip flops, batheing suits, and grampa sweaters (not necessarily together, not necessarily not together) are in.

english girls dress up much more than american girls do. i would say she should just wear whatever she wants, but i was pretty surprised with how little girls in manchester wore when they were going out.

My sister tends to prefer more casual clothes anyway so I think she'll be all right but she rang me up specifically to ask for your advice so I'm sure it will be appricated.

August around here is hot as hell, and I'm a whole state north. So really, "not much" is pretty accurate.

HOT.
Humid.

Well, that's what it's like in Illinois. I assume it would be worse further south.

my Spanish teacher was 22 and from Spain. She had the cutest clothes and I'm pretty sure she didn't get them here. She only had like 5 outfits though. Your sister should be herself AND have more than 5 outfits.

I've never been there specifically, but from what I have seen of the south, summer is really fucking hot and humid, above 90 all the time

(in Boston, above 90 is a heat wave, as hot as it gets. in the south, that's more like the usual summer weather)

and yeah, don't change your style to blend in, that's absurd. if she already tends towards casual, cool. I do think girls in the South tend to dress girlier than girls in the north of the U.S., so you probably see more skirts and dresses there, but again, that's just what a lot of people tend to do, doesn't mean you need to be like them.

mississippi is pretty damn hot.

american universities tend to be very diverse and open, especially the larger schools. i think "be yourself" is a great suggestion. she should wear whatever feels comfortable, especially in the summer heat.

but really, your sister could walk around in bedsheets and if she had a british accent i'd buy her a drink.

you know what, in my experience americans/canadians think british people are totally cool and exotic. so she should dress british.

I was in Tennessee for a few weeks (and Alabama for a few days) in August a few years ago and it was pretty hot and humid. Not half as bad as Florida that's for sure but it got up there. In Tennessee I did tend to stay in a bit more than was liked but I could have dealt with the heat okay. The weather could be super perfect though if there was a breeze.

DeeAnn lives in Tennessee, I think, which is near Mississippi.

That is everything I know about Mississippi, girls, and fashion.
