Some of my favourites are:

'Havent got a pot to piss in.'

'going over the top' (its not that odd but its origins come from the first world war, in reference to going over the tops of the trenches something which was pretty much suicidal).

'Gutted like a fish in a fish monger' (disapointed)

anyone else got some strange ones?
