Nah I think I'm going to wait for this one, I want to watch it in hd and on a big screen, my computers arent powerful enough to handle blu ray quality torrents so it wouldnt be worth it.

Anyone else kinda disappointed in this so far?

I didnt want to call it out just yet but... yes.

For all the crews rants and raves about how this is a more personal story the only characters names I remember are Leckie and sledge and I only know them because of all the promo stuff not the series.

I've only seen two episodes but so far it hasnt had the impact that band of brothers had.

No doubt Phil. I don't like the smaller cast of characters, and there is not enough action. I know Spielberg said they wanted to have more home life crap to broaden the appeal, but it has weakened the series. I feel like there has been a lack of overall perspective, also.

I'm not sure the home life stuff is what makes it weak, in band of brothers we took a whole episode to get to know the cast with their training at the camp, in this series we get dumped in at a big battle where they are a fully formed unit.

They also feel like their experienced in war but the thing is the first two episodes skip over all of that stuff.

If they were going to go with, atcually very little happened in the first part of the battle, it was really boring they should of commited themselves to that then bought in the omg slaughter right at the end.

that would of been more shocking and powerful.

I cant comment on episode 3 because it hasnt aired but 1 and 2 were disapointing.

Episode 3 is a snoozer. Good point about the training camp. I was excited to see Basilone's story because he is from the same state as me. I read a lot about him as a kid. But Seda is kinda not doing it for me. I think what hurts too is the BOB only has to cover 44-45, while the Pacific has to cover a longer time frame.

Shame you feel that way about seda, I dont know the only chracter that I felt like i learnt anything about was Robert Leckie.

I think I'm going to watch it again tommorow to make up my mind and see if I get it.

Which is a shame in itself because band of brothers was perfect.

As for the time frame maybe but I still feel like they were spreading themselves too thinly.

I dont know I'm confused about the whole thing.

Well we'll see, still got a ways to go. They really have a lot to live up to.

I'll say one thing for it, I'm reading up on the history of this theatre of war because its made me realise how little I know about it.

It is weird how the war in Europe overshadowed the war with japan. I think that most Americans were more emotionally invested in the war with Japan. They did attack us after all. Plus many feel the pacific theater was just the US vs Japan, (even though it wasn't) while there was so much more going on with Europe and North Africa all happening at once. What happened to Japanese-Americans is a testament to how the country felt.

They keep billing it as the war that saved Australia and shit

Hmm, do Australians feel we saved their bacon back then? I guess I never really considered that. I admit I always thought Japan's intentions were to isolate Australia. Most of what I have read seems to say that Japan did not feel capable of invading, with everything they had going on.

I was just curious, I think I have to read up on this aspect of the war, I do not know much about Australia's involvement other than the large amount of troops that fought in the Middle East /Africa and their involvement in the Battle of Britain with the RAF, and the early action against the Japanese with the Brits in Malaysia and Singapore.
