So every now again when I forget my fear of needles I start to think that maybe, just maybe getting a tattoo wouldnt be such a bad idea but I'm kind of worried about getting it done.

I'm allergic to a lot of things and I'm pretty much on anti histamines (I wish I could spell) all the time, my doctor said I'm hyper sensitive so I'm pretty worried that I might be allergic to the ink.

Allergic reactions are a pain in the arse but I know so little about getting tattoos I've no idea if thats an issue.

Has anyone ever come across that?

well, i'm allergic to nichel and i got fear of needles too.

but i got 17 tats so far.

i have no idea abouth ink allergic reactions. i never got one, but having some friend who are tattoo artists, it seems ink reactions might turn out in form of skin stains (like red dots as when a mosquito bites you or something similar) or bubbles.in more "heavy" cases you might have the part of skin where the tattoo is kind of "falling away" , a friend o'mine got that on a spiderweb on his elbow, and got a spiderweb shaped deep cut on his elbow for months.which is not so confy to handle i guess.

unfortunately, this is the only things i know about.

i think it's better ask to a tattooist (a trustworthy one, not someone which says "hey it's ok no worries" just to make a tattoo) or to a doctor(maybe one specialized on skin/allergies).

I wouldnt be too worried about ink allergies. In my experience when someone has reacted, its only to one color and that could be traced back to a bad batch of that particular color.

Theres no way to know if something is going to happen but I can tell you that its pretty rare.

Do you have a latex allergy? you need to let the artist know that if you actually get one ; )

Thanks for the advice guys, its something to think about.

I dont know if I'll actually get one I mean I have that fear to get over, then theres finding the right tattoo and then theres my allergies.

I'm really not certain if I'm allergic to latex, I know when I worked in a bakery my skin broke up on my hands but that probably wasnt just the gloves, it could of been sweat and the anti bacertial hand wash was a major problem.

If I did get a tattoo its placement wont be an issue because I'll never work in an office and the media tends to be relaxed.

But yeah i have a lot of stuff to think about.

can't hurt to do a test run. go see a tattooist, explain your concerns and ask for a tiny X on your wrist or something and see how it goes.

and don't worry about needle fear. it feels more like being scraped with a hot fork. the penetration is so shallow it's not like getting a needle at all. you've probably been injured worse falling off a skateboard.

I might actually do that thanks for the tip, I just need to find out what the good tattoo places are in my area.

As for the needles, that doesnt sound too bad I've ripped myself up a few times longboarding (serriously I'm not meant to go down hills) and I got over it pretty quickly so it might be ok.

I've been researching vegan inks -- different inks have different ingredients, so if you could ask about what brand of inks the tattoo shop in question uses and then research that brand you could find more about what ingredients (and possible allergens) they contain.

and most needle phobias are situation related and strongly linked to a visual image of a syringe...it'll be out of a medical context, and the tattoo needle just doesn't look like a needle.

My friend had a reacting to the link in her tattoo, her skin is all raised under it so it's not as clear as it should be, but she's a rarity.

heh. when I have money, and semi like my body. Both will take a long time.

I figure if I still want it in five years, I won't regret it.

But I have a design worked out :D

I have red in both my tattoos and when I got them done those parts were more...puffy than the rest of the colors as far as healing but it wasnt anything to worry about, you could always talk to whichever artist is going to be doing it and ask what kind of ink he/she uses and look it up prior to getting it done to see if there are things you might be allergic to

also I have friends with fears of needles and they did not have a problem with their fears when getting it done plus you really forget about it once its finished, most people get more nervous about the buzzing noise the tattoo gun makes than the needles themselves

do not fear! if you truly want a tattoo I say go for it!

"raised" parts in healed tattoos are usually due to the artist going too deep make sure you go to someone with a lot of experience in tattooing dont be afraid to ask to see their portfolio of past work

also the red parts in my tattoo were only puffy when it was first done, everything is smooth and fine now :) I love my tattoos! talking about them makes me want more and more
