Mate, its the UK its like getting snow in the desert.

Ok thats a bit of an exageration but most years if we get snow its a dusting, the amount of snow we got today is enough to shut down the country.

SuperRyan
SuperRyan on Jan 05 '10 at 5:34pm
I guess it's sort of weird hearing people talk about snow like this because we're pretty used to it across the pond.

shoveling is for the lower classes

So snowblowers aren't a popular item in the UK I suppose

The southern U.S. has the same thing with snow, methinks. It confuses and enthralls us.

Also, where I live now (Johnson City) apparently gets a lot more snow than where I'm from originally (Chattanooga). When we had eight inches last week, I saw a snowplow! I've never seen one before. I was excited.

Its a clincal condition.

Actually its more to do with the fact that the majority of people dont know how to act/be safe when theres a lot of snow and the fact that its so rare just means we try to enjoy it whilst we can.

Also we dont have snow tires, we just have tires.

a mate and I went to the cinema today, despite the fact the roads were gritted we saw abandoned cars, an ambulance being loaded onto a tow truck then towed away and the journey took 2 hours.

It normally takes 15 minutes, our average speed was 6 miles an hour.

6 miles per hour??? man, if i had been behind you i woulda been pissed, haha, but i first learned to drive during winter so i'm pretty comfortable with driving in snow storms and the like. i don't drive anymore though because i live in a city now.

but, when my parents drove me back to toronto after the christmas holidays there was a bit of snow on the way south and other cars were acting fucking crazy! it's pretty obvious that toronto people don't know what the fuck they're doing when there is snow on the roads. we saw 5 roadside accidents within a span of just 100 kms and some fool bumped into us because he was going too fast during a jam. (didn't damage anything though)

ginette, believe me we would of driven faster but we were stuck in a traffic jam.

Also silly toronto people thinking their new york...

jks

Also Ryan holy shit, that photo is insane, theres litterally no part of the uk that doesnt have snow.
ginetteginette
   ginetteginette on Jan 07 '10 at 5:51pm
traffic jams on snowy days are the worst because you KNOW there is someone at the front of the pack actually going 10 miles per hour and everyone is stuck following their speed. ahhh. hate.
stubby43
stubby43 on Jan 07 '10 at 5:55pm
Yeah I guess, I never really thought about it at the time but there have been a lot of crashes and in some places people just abandoned their cars all together.

That night was pretty much chaos and we were one of the least effected counties.

British people have no idea how to act in bad weather, but I think were starting to learn.

Mum said shes going to buy grit next year for the drive way.

Grit is always a good option. It's 100% effective.
ginetteginette
   ginetteginette on Jan 07 '10 at 6:11pm
is grit like road salt?
stubby43
stubby43 on Jan 07 '10 at 6:15pm
Yup road salt, I'm pretty sure it will beat the hell out of shovling the drive, I mean this snow storm will probably only last a few weeks, a month at best so we'll be fine.

Also I am offically ordering sleds online, my dad threw ours away because he has an obesssion with having absolutely nothing in the garage.
