UPDATE 2 The theme!

theme

Your idea of paradise

Thanks to Neuroplastcicty

I was playing around with the idea of everyone doing 2-3 sketches of what they consider paradise. Not so much the tropical island, but like one for me would be playing mario cart double dash with the Foo fighters live cd playing with my friends and Jagermeister. Odd, I know, but it was my Zen garden in art school.

UPDATE 3 The sketchbook guidlines
____________________________________

1 page mandatory, up to 3 optional

The back of the page free for the artist to write on, That way we will avoid ink going through and whatnot.

Thanks to Neuroplastcicty and Goldendust for that.

So about 30 days ago applesforjonah suggested doing a traveling sketchbook project where a sketchbook is bought by one person, drawn in the sent off to the next person and so on until its completed.

there was intial interest in the project but nothing really happened, I'm really interested in the idea so I was thinking that I'd take charge and get the project moving a long.

So the email address is runawaysketchbook@googlemail.com

I need people to send me:

in the subject type your user name and the body

Full name
user name
Address (including country)
If their willing to buy the sketchbook
and if their willing to ship internationally

for the questions a yes or a no is enough

I'm already in. I think small groups with individual sketchbooks might work better. Say 5-10. Maybe those groups would be of people that live relitively close to eachother so shipping costs aren't outragous. Each person should have it for a shot time, like you said. Each person should scan the book just incase it's lost.
trishxtrash
trishxtrash on Dec 02 '09 at 7:56pm
a small sketchbook will be cheaper to ship so maybe have a limit of 2 pages per person.

Well I've run a similar project to this one before and a route of five people proved to be the optimum amount, after that cameras (the things we were posting) just got lost.

Thanks for the tip neuroplastcicty.

P.s to those of you that have signed up so far, any chance you could re send the email? with your username in the subject, plus the subject?

Sorry my bad, but it will help with the organising.

Resent. For a theme...

Neuroplastcicty had a good one in the other blog - your idea of paradise.

I'll think of something and come back here. My mind just went blank.

Roostersauce
Roostersauce on Dec 02 '09 at 9:19pm
I think everyone should have 1 page.

We can get a book with bigger pages if that's an issue for some people.
Roostersauce
Roostersauce on Dec 02 '09 at 9:22pm
So taking into account my unsurness about where I'll be while this is going on. I'll be more than happy to buy the sketchbook and get it rolling
trishxtrash
trishxtrash on Dec 03 '09 at 4:42pm
I'd also be happy to buy a book and get this started for a group of people. I just need to know who it's going to and what kind of book I should buy. What do you guys think?
stubby43
stubby43 on Dec 03 '09 at 6:12pm
Sorry I've been at work all day, so far its 5 people taking part (including me, although I have little artistic ability) which is just about enough for one route.

So I think roostersauce (sorry man I am terrible with names at the best of times and its been a long day) should buy the book and get it started.

As for the idea of putting in the list of of address's I'm not that keen on it, I kind of want to avoid giving out personal information as much as possible, but I think everyone should sign the sketch, with their real name and user name.

I'm not all that sure about the theme, its up to you guys, I'm not all that interested in taking part in the actual art work (like I said my ability level is extremely low) but if you guys want to tackle a story then thats up to you.

But I'd suggest picking a simple theme that everyone will be able to interpt differently.

Like amibtion, or memories.

going on personal experience running a similar project, going past five people is a big no no because the books just disapear

Stubby, I think you should add something. I don't think of this as a gallery of great artist, but artwork by a community. Plus with art, its more about the idea not the style, I've been to enough exhibitions to know that this is a fact.

How about 1 page each, with the back of the page free for the artist to write on? That way we will avoid ink going through and whatnot.

I am so damn keen for this.

My friends and I managed to get a travelling notebook posted around about 12 times... all over the country. And now it's safely tucked away.

That's a sweet idea.

I'm not too keen on a plot or anything either. Likewise I wouldn't call myself a trained artists per say, I enjoy drawing though.

Ok what kind of sketchbook do we all want to work with?

sleepyfeet
sleepyfeet on Dec 04 '09 at 1:31am
should be big pages that are somewhat thick so that the pages don't warp with paints, glues, and the like.
Neuroplastcicty
Neuroplastcicty on Dec 04 '09 at 6:12am
if we are limiting this to 5-10 people, there should be more then enough pages if someone wanted to do more then one.

But I don't think we should force people to do more then one page if they don't want to.

So... 1 page mandatory, up to 3 optional?

Sorry man for completely stealing your thunder, its just I have a lot of free time and I've been looking for a new project to sink my teeth into but if you want to help with the organisation I'm sure they'll be something you could do.

As for the sketchbook, big pages would be better but just remember that the bigger the sketchbook is the more expensive the postage is.

You should also buy a sketchbook with paper that’s suitable for water colours.

oooh oooh oooh!

i'd like to be a part of this if it isn't too late!

i'd still like to get my hands on that stinkin' camera!
stubby43

Nope its not too late at all, the more people that take part the better.

As for the last attempt at the traveling camera project, yeah its partly my fault because I couldnt commit to organising it compeletely (plus I lost the entire database of people taking part cause my hard drive crapped out).

P.S you should probably keep a look out for updates early next year.

aw well, i wouldn't sweat it, it sucks about yr hard drive tho.

all that was really needed, was for the camera to be mailed on.

are you thinking of attempting another go with the traveling camera?

if so, i'm in.

not a single round i've been in both times were ever finished, i'd like to see that change.

Well the sketchbook will go back to me and I'll upload them onto a website, I was also thinking, if anyone was interested that I might print some of the best work and put them up for sale.

Thats just an idea though.

I'll send an email update out tommorow.

Also I promise to learn everyones names soon.

Neuroplastcicty, I have no idea maybe once I've set up the routes you guys could debate the theme for a project in a blog/through email? then it would be a supprise.

Micah, go a head and buy a sketchbook, just dont get anything too big because it will raise the price of the postage.

Oh and it would be better if the paper was good quality, I'd imagine some people might want to use water colours (I've no idea).

cheers everyone.

Ok cool, well I'll send that update out in a minute to the sketchbook buyers.

I've got one route done tonight, but its late and I've been making stupid mistakes emailing people with the details so I'm calling it quits tonight (plus we still dont know what the theme is for the second route)

If you havent recieved an email that means your in the second route, i'll get back in touch in the morning.

Sorry

Thanks Phil.
