Hey guys, so I'm applying for an assistant manager position at a bookstore in canada and I need help with the covering letter, is there any chance any of you can look over it and make some suggestions for improving it?

thanks

Phil

I'd really like to offer you guys something in return but the very best I could do is buy a tee shirt and I can only really afford one and I dont know what a fair way of deciding would be.

p.s.s this is the position I am applying for, I dont think I'll get it but its worth a shot

The deadlines tommorow, but the entire weekend has been a disaster because of a power cut and power surge.

any help would be appricated

Dear

I am a recent graduate of York St John University and have attained a B.A Hon’s 2:1 undergraduate degree in film and television production. I now wish to further myself and gain new skills in a retail environment.

I read the posting for the position of customer service Coordinator with great interest because I have extensive experience within the industry and it would be a chance to take on new challenges.

I have over four years of experience working in a retail environment, most significantly WH Smiths PLC, one of the largest retailers of books, magazines and stationary in the UK. As such I am highly familiar with the daily runnings of a bookstore and am able to identify the needs of the customers.

As an employee of Tescos PLC, the biggest grocery chain in the UK I have shown my ability to achieve a high visual standard within the store and was able to further develop my time management skills.

Finally as a Sales assistant at Jessops PLC, a camera and photography equipment retailer I have demonstrated my ability to work with customers, advising them on purchase by attempting to meet their needs whilst staying within their budget.

In my free time I take part in several activities including rowing, where I was a coxswain. As a coxswain I am responsible: for keeping the boat and rowers safe by steering the boat safely, keeping the crew rowing in time, motivating the crew and providing tactical decisions when required.

As part of my degree and in my free time I have worked on several short films working primarily as a cameraman. Fulfilling this role meant I had to help the director achieve his vision by providing a variety of ways to shoot a scene.
Throughout this collaboration we produced several pieces including a film called living’la vida longboard.

As a British citizen I will be required to apply for a work visa, I plan on applying for a working holiday visa through BUNAC http://www.bunac.org/ which takes several months to complete, however it requires no paper work from you the employers.

Yours

Sincerely

Phillip Johnson

i edited it for you and added in a closing paragraph. i would also recommend explaining how your experience as a coxswain can relate to being a manager (overseeing a team and so on). also, make sure you properly capitalize the name of your film if it contains any capital letters.

I think you should flush out your work experiences more (your tasks, duties, responsibilities, etc.).

like, why and how are you familiar with the daily runnings of a bookstore?

how did you show a high visual standard within the grocery store?

explain some more about helping customers at Jessops.

with rowing, that's a good thing to put in - it shows leadership. flush it out! more detail!

I don't think you should put a link to the video, but explain more about your duties.

You've got a good foundation, just add more details and experiences!

Best of luck on this, my friend!

Ryan I'm kind of worried because its already at a page and I dont want to go over that length, I'm also sort of worried about adding that stuff in because I go over my responsibilities and experience in the resume.

Also I suck at this so I probably shouldnt be listening to my doubts.

I have made some slight changes to it because I dont think the rowing, or the film making was all that clear, I mean with rowing I was trying to show I have leadership skills but with the film making I wanted to show that I could also be support.

In my free time I take part in several activities including rowing, where I was a coxswain, which required me to take on a managerial role. As a coxswain I am responsible for keeping the boat and rowers safe by steering the boat safely, keeping the crew rowing in time, motivating the crew, and providing tactical decisions when required.

As part of my degree, and in my free time, I have worked on several short films, primarily as a cameraman. Fulfilling this role meant I had to help the director achieve his vision by providing a variety of ways to shoot a scene. This was done whilst working with other members of the team such as the sound man, to make sure our planned shots did not impede their efforts to record high quality sound.
