a hypothetical question about hypothetical stuff

Another company owns the web domain that I need (but they dont use the website), is it bad practice/will it cause me problems if I choose a similar name for the site?

They own traveling camera.com, I'm thinking of buying travelingcameraclub.com

My worry is that it'll cause brand confusion but I need that domain name.

you should be fine...i did a report on ICANN back in college and I remember reading about a similar situation...you'll be fine.
