So I have a job interview with a big chain of supermarkets (the stores only small), I'm desperate for a job because I've just finished university and there are litterally no jobs in my area (alot of the shops in my town got killed by the recession and I live between 30 and 40 minutes from the next big shopping centres).

I need this job badly and it would be super awesome if I got it cause its litterally a five minute walk from my house, serriously I live at the top of the hill and its at the bottom.

but I'm super nervous and I have no idea what their going to ask, so can you guys ask me practice questions and I'll come up with answers?

thank you

I'm not sure that will help since we're not asking them face to face, and you won't have to formulate a response on the spot. I wouldn't worry about it too much. They'll probably ask generic questions like what you know about the company, why you want to work there and what you see your short/long term plans being.

Unless it's for a managerial position?

I dont know personally I find it easier to write everything out by hand, it helps me remember stuff.

I'll probably be fine, the only job I havent gotten is the first interview I ever went to and I had no idea what I was doing.

and its just a shop assistant job.

The thing that worried me is that 40 other people applied for three positions.

I had a job interview today.... they sprang the ol 'What do you think your strengths and weaknesses are?'

oh god that actually quite a hard one, how do you answer that by making your weaknesses sound like strengths but dont sound like your just rolling something off?

I've never applied for a shop assistant's role. But for customer service:

1) Give an example of a time when you used teamwork to achieve a goal

2) Give an example of your experience with dealing with people from different walks of life

3) Give an example of a time when you had to train someone

4) Give an example of a time when you provided excellent customer service

They tend to ask you if you are good with people, how you would deal with interactions with customers, things like that.

I believe a pretty standard question is, "if you were showing one customer where something is, and another customer came up and asked a question, how would you deal with this situation."

I reckon companies always ask "where do you see yourself in 5 years time". Then they might even ask where you see yourself in ten.

When it comes to grocery/supermarket positions, their questions are usually less wide-ranging and philosophical, and more "how would you not fuck up in this situation?"

Thanks for the help everyone, I've been writing them out on paper (I dont like typing I dont know why).

I'm feeling alot better about it, plus I realised that I'm really qualified to do the job.

I've worked in a book store and a camera shop so I've had both types of sales experience, plus in the book store job I've done some of the jobs they have in the super market like doing lottery tickets and putting out and sending back magazines/news papers (I'll of even filled out the same paper work assumeing the use the same distributors).

I'm only a little bit worried if they ask me what my short term plans are because straight up if I got a job with a film company I'd quit in a heart beat and the jobs only there to tide me over.

thats a pretty crappy answer.

I think I'm going with saving to go back to canada and that will take me over a year to do.

You definitely don't say "This is short term." Just tell a little white lie and say that you're excited to work with the company for a long time.
