I cant believe "the most trusted man in America" is dead, dude was a legend.

He was the guy who broke the news of the Kendey assaination and covered the vietnam war.

Walter Cronkite, an iconic CBS News journalist who defined the role of anchorman for a generation of television viewers, died Friday at the age of 92, his family said.

Mr. Cronkite anchored the “CBS Evening News” from 1962 to 1981, at a time when television became the dominant medium of the United States. He figuratively held the hand of the American public during the civil rights movement, the space race, the Vietnam war, and the impeachment of Richard Nixon. During his tenure, network newscasts were expanded to 30 minutes from 15.

Serriously am I the only person who cares about this?

what, i was just offering a possible explanation for the lack of response. He does ask if he is the only person who cares...indirectly asking for a response. no harm meant by it.

I actually only saw the news a few minutes ago (guess I'm stuck in a daily me) and didnt see the other blog.

I wont talk about MJ because to be blunt I'll probably end up offending people but Cronkite deserves more than eleven comments.

He was there for the people through some of Americas most traumatic events in history at a time when the networks were one of the most important ways of distributing information.

His opinions had huge implications for the vietnam war, who else could get a president to say:

"If I've lost Cronkite, I've lost middle America."

He deserves respect and regonition.

i hadn't heard about this! robert mcnamara died two weeks ago, too. i suppose its just time for the people who defined the last century to pass on...they've been around for some time anyway, heh heh. they lived good, full lives!

i just look ahead -- who will become the defining women and men of this century!? it'll be interesting to see.

I agree, big news... it's too bad and yet you can rest assured he lived a life worthwhile.

Although I disagree with robert mcnamara policies its hard to deny how significant he was.

That will be really interesting to watch, were already at a tipping point regarding climate change how we deal with it will define the next century.

i knew you'd find this blog and say something like that...

@stubby

the lack of response on here may be due to when he did his best work. look at what you mention. most of that stuff happened before more than half of the users on here were born, and if they were born they were only babies. they don't remember how significant he was they just know he was some well respected reporter for cbs if that.

I know, its just my view is skewed because I read so much history.

I did my A-level history on the vietnam war and I've read atleast ten american/world history books since.

For me those historical figures are the real celebrities because they actually changed the world (even if it was in action caused it).

Take William Pitt the Elder (british prime minister) if he hadnt of been ill both physically and mentally, there would be no United states of America because they'd still be apart of the british empire.
