Ok that might be a slight exageration but my name is Phillip David Johnson, my name contains three of the most common names in english language ever second only to smith in the United states (strangely 12th in canada and 9th in england).

It makes it almost impossible to register email address's or as I'm finding now even more difficult a website that has any part of my name in it.

I've graduated university so I'm kind of thinking its time to clean up my online identity a bit and go more professional but my name is holding me back.

Does anyone else have this problem?

http://ahistoryoftakingoffmyshirt.tumblr.com

A history of taking off my shirt

Which takes way too long to type and has nothing to do with what I actually talk about which mainly consists of Canada, longboarding and trends is web technology/economics and buisness.

That sucks mainly because it presents a bad image about you and confuses people.

change your name

The truth is other than email address's and web domains I dont mind my name and if I change it I kill off my line of the Johnson family so I dont really want to do it.

Though greg greg greg sounds appealing.

Brian I didnt check that one, I'm buying it now.

you could also go for hiimphil.com, good for three reasons:

1. not taken yet.

2. easy to remember and fairly short.

3. when spelled out, looks like hiimphil which reminds me of large water dwelling mammals from Sweden. Don't ask me why.

And dick jokes but only in north america.

I know a guy called Randy Johnson which I find particularly hilarious considering that his name basically means horney penis.

There's a sports medicine clinic here in Greensboro. The founding partners last names are Mortensen, Redall, Whitfield and Caffrey.

Their first names are Dick, Peter, John and Rod. I made enough signs for them that I can never forget it.

i dont want to hear talk of your name being too generic unless you're one of the other 55,000 James Smiths in the US.

to make matters worse, my middle name is Edward.

James

Edward

Smith

Lol ok but you have to admit I come in a close second but atleast you dont have a namesake (Phillip E Johnson) that supports itelligent design, is a born again christian and is the laughing stock of the scientific community because he refuses to believe HIV causes AIDs.

Or theres Phillip C Johnson the infulential architect who also happened to be a nazi sympathiser.

Deb's I just want a middle ground

I have no plans of changing my name, it seems kind of pointless but I just bought hiimphil.com, I'm just trying to figure out how to connect it to my blog and failing.

I think it has something to do with the fact I registered it through google and its more complaicated than normal.

If it makes you feel any better Alvin I'm born on the 25 th december, so every time I tell people my birthday I get the same three statements:

Really?

Oh the same day as Jesus

your parents must screw you out of presents.

Yes really

Actually the only reason christmas is on the 25th of december is because the romans wanted to make it easier for pagans to transition to christianity, Jesus was more likely born earlier in the year when Shepards would be well sheparding.

My parents arent dick wads.

Omair, I get the accidentally thing but ironically? I dont really get the joke.

Snakeman, that would be awesome, I'd totally register a website with those initals.

josh, though it is dreamy it tends to only work in north america... I cant wait to get back

When I was younger I wanted a more generic name, like Christie or Megan - mostly because my name was never on those little personalized souvenir things. I used to hate my last name too, but I've come to like it.

Well I've bought it now, I honnestly dont think I was ever going to find a good name for my website the only other name I came up with was zork zork, which makes no sense and was taken.

Priscilla, your name is awesome even if I cant spell it (serriously I had to copy and paste it) I guess the grass is always greener on the otherside.
