Threadless

stubby43 aka Phil is a 25.42 year old boy, has been a member since December 22, 2006, has scored 3,809 submissions, giving an average score of 2.65, helping 191 designs get printed.
Serriously, I counted 4 blogs that werent about pimping their slogans/designs.

To be honest its kind of annoying and instead of actually making me want to vote on your subs it puts me off doing that.

It feels like the blogs are just being used as an advertising space, the irony being that these blogs probably dont increase the amount of votes you recive on a sub.

Its killing the community, the only thing we can do is say, oh yes look at that its very nice.

I mean think about it, at the most theres probably 100 active bloggers but that activity is spread out through the enitre day because of time zones so at any one time on the blogs theres maybe only 20 to 30 people actually around to see your post.

Even if everyone of those 30 people gave your sub a high vote it barely makes a dint on the voting proccess. The majority of threadless users dont use the blogs they see the designs through the voting system.

I've been a member of threadless for a little over three years and I know we've had bad moments before and we've got past them but this is by far the worst we've had.

Can we please be a community again and talk about things?

p.s I know that this wont change anything and people will continue to post look at my sub blogs but I thought it was worth saying something.

Personally I love the look at my sub blogs because it ensures that I see that design and don't miss it! Especially since I don't have all day to sit around and vote on a pool of crap subs just to get to the much less frequent gems. Threadless is about art as much as it's about community.

I spilled half a cup of coffee going down my stairs to my office today.

we could talk about that, or we could talk about the latest designs Ive made or are in the process of making.

I would prefer the latter, but if you want to talk about the coffee spillage, im game.

I agree to an extent. I really think there should be a separate section in the blogs for slogans, just as there is for designs. Even though I don't really like a page and a half of "VOTE ON MY SLOGANS!!" blogs, I can understand that some people aren't on here for blogs about nothing or everything or something in-between, the "community experience" as it were.

How are ya, Phil? Have you moved to Canadaland yet or is that just something I made up?

Danielle, you have the critique section to talk about your latest design in progress thats kind of what its for.

Deanna I know, I was also thinking the other day that it doesnt feel like two minutes ago that we were the new members.

Honestly, I don't believe this "Separate tab for slogans" thing makes any sense at all. These aren't actually slogans in the way that designs are actually designs and critiques are actually critiques, they're just regular blogs directing people to slogans, which are in a separate tab in a user's profile, if not on an entirely different site. It's just the same as there being blogs promoting designs or critiques, they're not the actual designs or critiques and still appear under the Blogs/General tab. Having a separate tab would still require people to voluntarily put their blogs under the slogan tab and leave it out of the General tab.

my heart has always gone to meaningless blogs, so it has been a bit of a turnoff that those seem to be in the minority these days

though i dont feel i necessarily have a right to complain, considering promoting and discussing arts is the actual intent of the forum

i cant help admitting though, im becoming one of those old bitter bloggers who misses the way things were... thus Ive cut back on blawg time considerably, and that makes me a sad panda.

yeah, I agree. I love scoring and commenting subs, but I usually don't even look at the design/slogan pimping blogs. I guess all this is a reason why I'm not on threadless as often as I used to, and I kind of miss it.

Alvin thats a pretty good idea, I mean I get why people do the vote on my stuff blogs because they hope it will get their stuff seen but I'd really like an option to not see that stuff and just look at blog discussions.

I wish I was moving to Canadaland, but the long and short of it is right at the moment I dont have the money to go so everythings been put on hold whilst I finish my degree and save money. I was aiming to be out in september but thats not going to happen so it might end up being late next year.

which is pretty lame but whatever.

Also, I've felt that the community has been dying for about 6 months.

But then again, maybe it's nto dying. Maybe it's just our generation of vetran bloggers that's dying out. Kids graduating from school and getting jobs and such...

That leaves us with a bunch of zany greenhorned youngsters that don't know the first thing about pointless blogging.

I loved the pointless disucussions that why I come to threadless, I havent really voted on subs in a long time I would if I felt I had a reason to but I dont.

What I mean by that is I dont have the money to buy tee shirts and that was one of the biggest joys of voting, the chance that the tee shirt you want to buy will get printed.

Honnestly these days the only reason I stick around threadless is because most of the other communities I've tried to join are full of lame arses who flame people if they make a suggestion slightly different to their comfort zone.

i get the idea of the slogan blogs because well, who really sits down over on the typetees scoring page and scores those slogans? some of them are just plain awful and well, i don't want to waste my energy voting no on the majority of them. as part of the 365 slogan challenge, i am aware that there are around 10-20 slogan blogs floating around at times.

there are those few slogan blogs that just ask you to vote on their slogans, but we should consider how lucky it is that not everyone who submits a slogan decides to post a blog about it. the blog forum does feel like an "advertising" forum with all these blogs about voting on designs and slogans, but i don't feel that the community is dying.

As much as you want to fight it, you can't change the minds of the general public. I've learned that the hard way myself, you'll exert far too much energy trying to make them stop polluting the blog forums with the pointless *check me out*s. Seems it goes that way with critiques. I love getting input on how to make designs better, I hate having just "Oh, nice... now check me out!". I rarely go check it out because I'm so angry. The only time I 'check out designs' is when I'm going through and voting... Anyway, it goes farther than just blogs.

Here's an idea.. make a design about how this pisses you off.. ha, or not.

I love the pointless blogs...even when I'm just lurking them...they're really the one of the great things about threadless. It seems like a lot has changed over the past few months as far as who's around and what's being talked about...I don't mind seeing something pimped, but I've never seen it as the main focus of the blog section...even if that was the intention...or whatever. Let's talk about toast or something.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the main intention of this community to promote the work of awesome designers? While most sloganeers aren't designers, it doesn't make their efforts any less worthwhile and they should have every right to pimp their slogans as much as they like.

On the flip side, while I enjoy the occasional random pointless discussion posts, those too can become quite annoying and off putting.

I just dont want to have to leave threadless because of the blogs not being what they used to.

I dunno abuot that. I mean, a lot of kids are just spitting the most ridonculous shit off their head, where as in design, you at least have to put some effort into the work of designing right? like...at least 20 min right? Am I right?
