How many more semesters do you have left? Would you be able to continue with your same major/program or would you have to start over? Would you be able to afford the tuition if different and cost of living?
I love it out here in canada, I have a substanitally better life out here than I do at home and I have some of the closest friends I've ever had in my enitre life. I want to go home for for a couple of weeks and then head straight back out here.
But then theres reality.
I have one semester of university left in the uk and I'm in serrious debt to my parents.
If I transfer it means I have to go to university for another two years which is sort of a good thing because its two years in canada but it means even more debt.
I have no idea if I would be able to afford the tution, if I can apply for student loans then yes but if I have to pay in cash no.
If I dont do this it could be a year, maybe two before I can come back out to canada and even then it would only be on a temporary work visa, but the problem is in my current career (film) were only hired on 3 month contracts and its difficult to transfer a visa to a different company and it might mean I'm kicked out of the country.
The practical part of me says you should finish up school in the U.K. especially since you only have one semester left. Then save up some money and move back to Canada as soon as you can. It sucks starting out, but hopefully you'll be able to get a good job once you're there.
try talking to your program advisor & your financial aid person, from both schools. they may have some excellent advice for you on the best way to work things out, maybe even some weird scheme you haven't dreamed of yet.
they are there to help you with just this sort of pickle. ( : in theory.
On the topic of living expenses and such over here; I hear it's quite reasonable compared to Vancouver/Vancouver area and Toronto and I imagine it's much better than the UK.
Oh and Phil, I've forgotten, What part of the UK are you in again?
Nicole the practical part of me says I should just finish my degree, pay off my debts and save up money to come out again but I've never been a practical person, hell I want to build a life in a country incredibly far from home.
The prospects of getting a work visa if I stick with film are looking extremely low because your usually required to have a permemant contract for atleast a year and after that contract is up the visa expires. Unless the company I worked for is willing to do this for me I'll have to give up on a career in film.
On top of this the company has to advertise the position for three months through out canada, then prove that they couldnt find anyone suitable to fill the job.
I'll be a production assistant/assistant editor and there a dime a dozen.
I wanted to get in under a skilled worker visa (which would make me a landed citizen) but after doing more research its unlikely that my job would be classed as a skill labour which almost completly rules that option out.
and marraige isnt on the cards (plus I dont want to get married just for a visa).
I'm sorry if that came out badly, its just I'm extremely tired and my emotions are all over the place at the moment (I went to the bathroom and started crying).
I'm happier in canada than I am at home.
Noodle, I'll deffiently look into that.
Mya, nope I cant afford the air far back right at the moment which sucksl, its one of the main reasons I'm still going home.
As for housing, I know its alot cheaper to live in sasketchewan than anywhere else in the country, its just a shame I wont get the benifit of it.
p.s I live in chester, its like half way between ,manchester and liverpool.
