I hate working in film and tv, mainly because it makes it impossible to enjoy films or tv programs because I spend half my time noticing shots, wondering how they did something or mistakes.

Back to the future is my favourite movie of all time, its just perfect.

Today I noticed that when the delorena comes to the future (the very first time in the film where they put enstine in the car), its supposed to be cold, they cover it with liquid nitrogen.

Well thats all fine and dandy cept when it blasts back through and skids to a hault the car isnt frozen.

I know there was no way around it and I dont really care but it annoys me that I cant switch off and just enjoy my favourite film without finding problems.

P.S I know this is a rant and I'm lucky to be in this industry and I do appricate it, its just alot of the time its boring.

the first day of my video classes in high school with my mentor that taught me everything

his first sentence was - this class will ruin movies for you.

it's true...but i kind of like figuring out stuff and noticing the details no one else does

how goes it phil?

It could be worse, a woman could have cut off your penis and tossed it out the window of a moving car.

Id say time travel created friction, what with all that cutting through the fabric of time, & therefore is a toasty way to travel?

yeah, it's never been the same for me.

especially when you start getting frustrated by the shots selected.

particularly in television.

it drives me nuts to see a miserably directed show,

especially when its a live event...

it can be fun when you make it game.

you do appreciate those who get it right,

sometimes you'll find perfection in the oddest productions...

Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way and it is fun sometimes, but I didnt enjoy back to the future in the same way I used to enjoy it.

Welshalex, thats probably true, but in the film the delorean starts off hot (hence the fire when it gets to 88) and comes back cold.

Karen, long time no speak its going fairly well I'm back in canada and hanging out with friends alot apart from work life is pretty good (one thing I've learnt is pre and post production are very boring).

I wish I was traveling more but whatever, next weekend I might be going to calgary!

the average Hollywood trailer ruins films for me
stubby43
stubby43 on Oct 30 '08 at 11:30am
P.S how are you?

Not a fan of trailers? to be honnest I'm supprised I mean hollywood has spent the last 40 years perfecting the art of making every film look good and making you want to commit 2 hours of your life to that film.

I love trailers, I could sit in a theatre and watch trailers all day. But as so many films that come out are total shit, that certainly comes across in the trailers, and sometimes makes them look even worse because of the audience they're targeting.

I was thinking about this yesterday when I was watching the new episode of house. They must have a new DP, the style is totally different, and its the style I fucking hate-

ZOOM IN ALL THE WAY WITHOUT A TRIPOD- wtf, the places he put them in didn't even make sense. no one was whispering or telling secrets, so its not like it was us trying to secretly listen in, and it was parts where they were just talking about symptoms and possible diagnostics, so there was nothing troubling- it wasn't fucking necessary. and it JUST started this last episode.

I hope the DP just had a sick day and some moron was fired the next day

I saw that trailer the other day, and didn't know what to expect. It looked like the typical Hollywood attempt at taboo toss, with the usual Hollywood toss actors then the title came up and I just laughed, hard. It wasn't just that film either, all the previews leading to the main film were really odd. That one was the only one I remember, but I'll be a monkeys nutbag if I'm gonna waste my time on that.

I dont know, if theres not much to play with then it can be very difficult, but I'm sure we've all seen trailers for films that look kick ass then realise that all the best bits are in the trailers.

I mean the scary movie trailers make the last few films look funny.
shakethesheets
shakethesheets on Oct 30 '08 at 11:57am
yeah, I can't stand trailers for modern comedies. Even if they were to be funny, you've already seen the majority of the jokes in the trailer that's been advertised a million times.

this (certainly not a comedy) does a terrible job of making you feel much of anything... like, there's supposed to be some emotion, but I just don't see it. and it looks terribly acted, and just... bad.

this trailer for the "new" The Day the Earth Stood Still isn't nearly as bad as the ads they've been showing... they make me laugh every time.

Come on, I can't even picture a team of co-stars more blah than Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly.

Malcolm Man

huh...I actually feel the opposite. I mean, I used to notice more mistakes and what not, but I just don't really care.

As cheesy as it sounds, it's all about the story.

However, the kind of films that I enjoy are not usually that "mistake prone" I watch narrative pieces, docs.

I mean, if you really wanted to get into it, there are whole books and sites dedicated to this kind of shit.

Your class schedule sounds pretty cool, too much analysis for me but still if thats what your into.

I'm not a fan of post production, maybe it would be better if I was actually editing but it feels a little too much like a 9 to 5 to me, were just sat in an office.

Tesst Oh no, the new style got even worse? I missed the last episode or 2, but I am really not a fan of the lighting/colors/shots this season. It used to be more light blues and whites, which made the show less depressing, but now everything is dark and greenish. It almost feels like a different show.
