Ok so last night I was working as a PA on a comedy festival (it was hella fun so check out my other blog about the crazyiness), after we all packed up we headed out to an irish bar for the after party and I got talking to a make up woman who worked the show.

I told her I have to get the bus and that only one bus runs in the morning then theres nothing until 4pm so she told me I can borrow her car. She's always away in fact shes going to be gone till christmas and its just sitting on her drive.

Now this woman was drunk and the next thing she asked me was if I wanted to drive up to saskatoon some time this week, watch a film being edited and smoke a lot of pot. So I was taking it with a pinch of salt.

She rang up the office today and asked if I still want the car, I'm getting it sometime this week.

Life is good.

I've met alot of amazing people whilst I've been out in canada, there are so many people that just help out without asking for anything.

One of the hardest things to adjust to is being dependent on other people for rides to anywhere and people are always really understanding but I always feel like a dick because I feel like I'm using people.

I dont know in the UK things feel different, I've never had help in the uk like I have out here.

That was something I picked up on pretty quickly when I moved from Saskatoon to Toronto -- out west many people would think it's no big deal to loan their car to a friend but in Ontario I think most motorists would sooner share their toothbrush. (OK, if it's someone you've just met that's pretty darned awesome, no question of it.)

I know it's partly an insurance thing, but I suspect there's a cultural aspect that cuts deeper than that.

Asfi you lived in saskatoon? whoa so do you support the riders? also is sasaktoon really a nicer looking city then regina?

Yeah I mean in the UK I wouldnt lend someone a car because of insurance, only the people declared on the cars are covered and I'd sure as hell never let an american or canadian use a car if they were in the UK, partly because so many of you dont know how to drive stick but also because many arent used to our roads, too many bends, hills and other traffic.

People from sk have enough trouble driving in regina and its not that hard.

I also kind of think that theres no real point to lending someone a car in the uk cause public transport is so good.

yup yup, the only bad thing is I'm not sure if it'll run by christmas, I dont have a parking pass which means I dont have access to a plug in point to keep the engine going.
