Well they need a base song so they can tie it all together, though I agree there should of been a few more refferences.

... so what do you call an akon song, solja boy and sir mix alot?

p.s I used the title because its from stuff white people like.com and this kind of fits, white people using rap and hip hop ironically.

Jeez guys your all extremely pedantic and if I'm using the wrong term at least tell me what the correct one is.

Look this band is a pop punk, accoustic band so this is pretty different (apart from sound) from their normal stuff.

Jay, no matter how many times you say its an akon song it doesnt change the fact that it has two other refferences in it.

Like I said its the base song, they did it so they've got a form and they can end it.

I mean at the end of the day they designed the song so it'll go viral, kind of like what ok go did with the treadmills.

Ok Go designed their song and dance so that they would "go viral"?

I think sometimes people that are so interested in the science of "viral videos" and web2.0 shit and all that get to thinking that's the goal of everyone else... A lot of the time (most of the time?) these things just happen and aren't calculated plots intended to gain x amounts of popularity.

Probably not the song but the fact is their band was falling into obscurity before that video came out.

I'd say these things did just happen in the past and to a large extent they still do but now there are ways where you can encourage it, such as services like digg, stumbleupon and then of course theres putting it onto popular viral video sites.

I agree you dont have anywhere near as much control as people would like but people are learning how to do it, jibjab.com do it well because their comedy shorts are based around at the moment topics the fact that its well done makes all the difference and that they had a viral video hit (that happened by accident) also garentied that it was going to do well.
