Right Ok this month esquire has an animated magazine cover!

they've only released this on their USA cover I'm stuck in the UK so could anyone pick me up a copy?

I'll cover the price and the postage (it'll be going to canada I'm moving their in 10 days) plus I'll throw in some gifts for your troubles (not much I'm pretty broke but I'll do my best).

If anyones up for doing this they'll be a hero of mine
forever.

------------------
Edit:
--------------------
I'm not sure how much it costs but it will probably be under $20, I'm also un sure of how much postage would be but its probably not that bad but like I said I'm covering it but I do realise that you have to pay up front.

If you want we could try pay pal (if I can work out how to use it).

I'm not sure, its the same as a normal issue of esquire because the tech behind it is being paid for by general motors.

My mailing address is stubby42 at hotmail co uk

Golden spatula its using e ink technology, its kind of like the stuff on calculators (I think).

Wiki article

Space I think part of the problem is that the technologys still pretty limited but they could of done more with the paper cover.

But still its still pretty decent, the screen runs on watch batteries so when it runs out its fairly easy to replace and esquire opened a challenge to hackers to program their own stuff onto it.

stubby43 on Sep 09 '08 at 5:31pm
Ok heres a video of e ink working out side of the magazine, it really is as thin as paper:

I cant find a price for it but I guess it would be under $20
stubby43
stubby43 on Sep 09 '08 at 6:27pm
Anyone at all?

Sorry I feel like a peen bumping it like this but this is the first time this technology has been used for such a wide circulation at an affordable price and we might never see it again (what advertiser wants to be the second person to fund it?).

If canadian stores carry the american version then possibly, but it is litterally only the US version thats going to have it international ones dont (guess they couldnt find advertisers).
Phiffer
Phiffer on Sep 09 '08 at 6:33pm
ill swing by the book store tomorrow (I am in Canada) and let you know if they have it here.
stubby43
stubby43 on Sep 09 '08 at 6:34pm
Dan, we probably will but its not going to be for a very long time, its still extremely expensive to use that tech, the only reason an advertiser was willing to bare the cost was because they'd be the first to do it.

It has to become economically viable for it to be used in more magazines because the more people who use it, well it becomes normal and that unique selling point is gone.

stubby43
stubby43 on Sep 10 '08 at 6:07am
I'm moving out to regina sasketchewan, lived there for 4 months last year and doing another 4 months then its back to the UK to apply for immigration.

I sort of ended up in sk by accident, there are far cooler places to live but my university did an exchange program there and the uni is letting me use their accomodation again whilst I work an internship for a film company.

All my friends are there so I'll probably move somewhere less lame later like calgary.

LOL that is very true. I am out in Goderich Ontario
stubby43
stubby43 on Sep 10 '08 at 9:37am
Yup, I mean dont get me wrong I loved it out there, enough to go back but I'm going back because of my friends not the city that and its easier than trying to move somewhere where I dont have people to help me out.

Just checked out goderich on the map, I have a friend who who's from london but moved out to calgary I guess about two years ago, they went on a massive road trip all the way from calgary to london on motor bikes I can only begin to imagine how insane it was.

Also it looks like your an equal distance from london and toronto.
Phiffer

actualy I am from London. I just moved here one year ago next wednesday.
stubby43
stubby43 on Sep 10 '08 at 9:44am
Awesome but no offense it kind of looks like moving from London to Goderich is a bit of a downgrade, but then thats only going on London is a bigger city.

We need to have a toronto meet up some time, theres quite a few people in the area and I'm always passing through.

It sucks becuase there isn't as much stuff. But I do live like a 10 minute walk away from the beach

And yes we really need a T.O. meetup. Its strange how we haven't tried to yet

stubby43 on Sep 10 '08 at 10:21am
Actually my london friend didnt really have many great things to say about london other than it confuses the hell out of people not from canada.

T.O meet up would be pretty sweet, I might not be able to do one this year (cause of how I booked my plane tickets) but theres a strong possibility of one in the 09, I finish uni in may so I'll probably be heading back for a holiday to see friends.

I've been in London a few times, and I have to say that if you're downtown it's kinda depressing, and if you're not downtown well then you may as well be just about anywhere in southern Ontario.

Goderich I've never been to, but for several years I was living in Orillia, which I would imagine would have a similar sort of smalltown Ontario ambience. (Oh, and the "10-minute walk to the beach" part is what absolutely rules, too!)

And yes we really need a T.O. meetup. Its strange how we haven't tried to yet

Well, there were some half-assed mutterings about setting something up last year, but then Phil didn't hear back from any of us lazy fucks in T.O. so he booked his flights home w/o a Toronto stayover. Our collective bad, must do better next time.

Which is really really ironic considering that who in their right mind thinks of GM as being a tech innovator? When I think of GM I think of Buicks, the epitome of grandpamobiles.
stubby43
stubby43 on Sep 10 '08 at 5:09pm
Well, its rarely a good image to be seen as behind the times, I guess their trying to shake that image.

As for the london, goderich and Orillia thing I think the beach sounds like a major pro and as long as the city has everything you need then thats pretty cool.

Personally I need a stint living in a big city, I kind of get the feeling small town canada (in the bigger provinces) would be too much like home and theres no way in hell I could live in small town SK a population of 1,500 people being considered being big is a bit mind blowing.

I wouldnt mind living in moose jaw though.

In many respects, Orillia was wonderful yet there were so many things lacking, like the rather limited shopping (unless one went to bigboxland just outside the city limits) or the fact that many of the city's residents and their cultural attitudes were stuck in a bad timewarp.

Fortunately, Toronto was only 1.5 to 2 hours away, which made it possible (for example) to hear live music which was first created sometime after I was born.

stubby43
stubby43 on Sep 10 '08 at 6:11pm
Orillia doesnt sound too bad and atleast the city was close, some of the people I met live in twos with 300 people and live 7 hours away from the big city which of course meant it was a twice a year trip.

Toronto seemed like a cool city, totally different from new york, NYC was really stressful but toronto was pretty relaxed.
