After watching the olympics over the past few days I've actually been quite interested in going but I'm really not that interested in going to london. Dont get me wrong its close by but we cant compete with the chinese and I doubt we'll do as good of a job as they have which means I have to looks like I'll have to wait till 2016.

In rank order its:

Tokyo ------ 8.3

Madrid ----- 8.1

Chicago ----- 7.0

Rio de Janeiro ----- 6.4

I'm hoping its either chicago or tokyo.

Oh if your interested heres a brief summary of their bids so far:

it would be odd for it to be in Chicago. I have no idea where they would even put it.

I hope it's not in the US because I'll be enticed to go and I'll hopefully already dropped a ton of cash getting myself to FIFA '14 and will be saving up for FIFA '18.

Actually if you read the bid it kind of makes sense chicago has a really good public transport system that alot of american cities lack and they have most of the infrastructer they need all ready its just a stadium and enlarging The Monroe Harbor for the rowing.

Threadless could be a sponsor!

But I think it should go to Rio.

you could come to Whistler for the 2010 winter games.

Whistler is pretty much the most beautiful place I've ever been in my whole life.

they already have full plans where they would put everything if it was here

chicago also has the sweetest logo by far

I want it to go to Chicago because that is baseball's best chance to get back into the olympics since it already has baseball facilities. It's already out of the 2012 games, and that makes me sad.

If you're just interested in the sports, how will London be any different to anywhere else? It's just the opening ceremony that will probably be crap.

lol @ the olympics being in rio

fuck that. hopefully it's NOT chicago

at least if they're in Chicago, I won't have to wake up in the middle of the night to see coverage.

espn is in a huge bidding war VS nbc for the next olympic coverage to broadcast it in real time, whenever it's happening, wherever the games are.

i'm not sure if canadian broadcasting already does that, but down here, nbc tape delays everything and it's lame
ofthecoast
ofthecoast on Aug 22 '08 at 1:47pm
The only thing I hate more than watching the Olympics on CBC is watching them on NBC... what the fuck is with still broadcasting Jeopardy and Wheel of Fucking Fortune during prime olympic sports watching hours.

I don't get ESPN here. TSN shows wrestling and basketball, but everything else is on CBC.

Well odds are on that I wont be in the UK so if anything its going to be a bigger trip than chicago or tokyo, I am interested in the sports but I want to decamp to a city for the duration of the games and i'd rather go somewhere more interesting than london, in theory I can go any time but some where further a field would be more interesting.
shirtflirt
shirtflirt on Aug 22 '08 at 1:49pm
ah, yeah, i'm done with NBC, Steve Gray sucks. bob costas head takes up my whole tv when he's on screen and the sappy, bullshit stories about NOTHING piss me right off

p.s if I can afford it I might go to the winter olympics depends on how my funds are holding up.
ofthecoast
ofthecoast on Aug 22 '08 at 1:52pm
yeah. What gets me most is that every time an american gets less than silver, they speculate about the quality of the judging or whatever else was not in favor of the americans.

and their interviews are crap.

I hate all interviews with athletes. They ask the most bizarre questions about nothing. I just wanna see some sports, dammit.

CBC is not much better, but they're still better.

I've never been to London. I was going to go this summer, but it fell through. True story.

Actually the rowing and the canoeing/kayaking athletes tend to be quite intelligent.
ofthecoast

it's not the athletes who strike me as moronic, it's the interviewers. I hate them.

canoeing/kayaking athelete is an oxymoron.

have you seen them, Al?
hanzabean

Watching the Olympics on the internet is much better, when the chance arises. Otherwise I would get to choose between watching stupid sitcoms or swimming/gymnastics.
shirtflirt
shirtflirt on Aug 22 '08 at 1:59pm
haha, i was jk

but no, i haven't.

my fav event so far was the badminton final.

stubby43 on Aug 22 '08 at 2:01pm
I kind of get what your saying, I mean today we won a gold medal for the 1000 km flat water canoeing, that never, ever happens even if you were on a canal you'd run out of canal before you got to 1000 km.

Oh and the guy is a doctor most of the year.

canoeing/kayaking is my fav olympic sport.
Steve The Great
Steve The Great on Aug 22 '08 at 2:14pm
not flatwater of course...flatwater is lame
stubby43
stubby43 on Aug 22 '08 at 2:16pm
For me its canoeing/kayaking and rowing because I actually know something about it, all the other sports are a bit of a blur.

If I do go to the olympics I'll be watching all of those events but then I'm going to go watch all the obscure events that the majority of people dont go to. There still helping us to get medals so they need our support.

Just to go back on topic for a minute chicago's a great city I loved it there and I'm willing to bet that it'll be alot cheaper but I'd actually rather go to tokyo, I've wanted to go to tokyo for years so it would be a brilliant excuse and to be there a decent amount of time would be pretty cool.
