Would it annoy you if comments on youtube videos werent at the bottom of the page but were actually over laid on videos?

Like this:

Ok so this needs a bit of explaining so here goes, this is a video of a popular japanese video site thats basically the equivilant of youtube called Nico Nico Douga.

Wierd magazine described it as "YouTube meets TRL" and that for many Japanese the added layer of commentary makes it better than TV.

Would this actually appeal to a western audience or is it something that would only appeal to the japanese?

P.S answering this will help me with my dissertation.

Understandable, I cant make up my mind if I'd like it or not.

I would like to watch a clip without the comments but then be able to turn it back on, the comments add an element that means the video is constantly changing (on this site the older comments get deleted so its always new).

ironically the only reason id watch something subbed is because its in japanese

I've become a bit of an anime geek of late, it started out quite inocently. I started re watching digimon which I always thought was better than pokemon (they actually had a plot that went somewhere), then I started re reading a favourite webcomic of mine megatokyo and then I'm suddenly watching animes like lucky star and clannad in japanese with english subs.

You read megatokyo? wow I dont think I've ever talked to anyone who's read it other than other megatokyo bloggers.

I love it but I get bored of waiting of new pages so I stop reading, forget about and come back in a couple of months and I catch up.
