As a kid I used to be really good at art until I got to high school (middle school) where I lost interest in it, since leaving high school I've deeply regreted not keeping art up and I've lost my confidence in my abilities (it got to the point where I was tracing) I really do want to learn but theres never really been a right time to do it but I'm on the summer holidays and I have five days a week with nothing to do.

In my house we have several books on how to draw anime, and a couple of books on how to draw real life.

I tried the anime first on the assumption that it would be easier but after a few sketches I realised that in order to draw in a styliest way I really need to learn the basics, how the body works how clothes fold and crease.

bad art 1

This is one of the first sketches I've done in a long time and I know its bad, it looked alot better before I drew clothes (I took the time to draw circles as a guide) but I'm still not certain on what I've done wrong (it all looks wrong so I need to know exact bits so I can improve).

My other problem is I'm already getting overwhelmed, the statement learn to draw is way too big, I know I need to split it down into smaller tasks but again I'm struggling to do this.

Can anyone help, or atleast point me in the right direction?

cheers

Phil

just work on body structure...I'm still struggling with that. Your proportions are pretty close, but break it down, face, hands body etc etc... I imagine it'll be easier that way? but also...practice. that helps.

Already you're on the winning path.

And yeah, lots of practice. That part's inevitable -- my self-taught artist friends (the ones that are any good, that is) have sketchbooks and they're always drawing in them.
