I'm doing sauages beans and I want to fry an egg but it just occured to me that I dont know how to fry an egg.

I know, stupid.

I know that you brake an egg into a pan but I was wondering do you put oil on the pan?

Put some butter in the bottom.

   Tonteau on Jun 03 '08 at 6:24am
Yeah, use oil and also put a lid on the pan to reflect the heat back down on to the top of the egg to cook it off.
SoldierofGondor
SoldierofGondor on Jun 03 '08 at 6:24am
Then put some salt and pepper on it.

Break the center if you want the middle cooked or leave it and let it be liquid (liquid ftw.)

The key is to use duck eggs. The you can fry them on both sides and still have a runny yolk.
fatheed
   fatheed on Jun 03 '08 at 6:28am
Tont is right. Circulate the heat over the egg. If you're an egg novice, which it sounds like you are, then break the egg into a small bowl first and check that its a clean break with no shell pieces! Enjoy!

although duck eggs seem a bit kinky to me
fatheed
   fatheed on Jun 03 '08 at 6:31am
If you want a really sinful fried egg, use more than a dribble of oil and tip the pan and repeatedly spoon the boiling oil over the egg. This negates the need for a lid. and fries it all over for a proper greasy spoon fried egg.

The yolk of a duck egg is massive. And they taste nice too.

Used to get them from a little shop 'round the corner from me when I was at university: 99p for a half doz. That on a sausage sandwich was pretty much perfect..........and a total hangover killer, too.
Tonteau
   Tonteau on Jun 03 '08 at 6:32am
When I 'massive', I mean bigger than your usual chicken yolk.

I fry eggs in a rather unorthodox way.

1st break a couple of eggs into a bowl.

then add salt, and stir them up with a butter knife.

put some oil into a frypan, heat it up.

pour eggs into pan.

it should look like an omelette
eskimokiss
   eskimokiss on Jun 03 '08 at 6:34am
also, when cooking with my method...

do what aled said in comments above..

I like my eggs well cooked and not runny

Another simple egg dish i like to cook now and eggain (oh god) involves dicing up some potatoes into small cubes, browning them in the pan, then when nice and brown adding the eggs in and scrambling them all together.. more like what you europeans would call a spanish omellete

I just went for the simple brake the egg and put a lid on.

One broke perfectly the other not so perfectly but still edible.

I call what you want dippy eggs and an never make them.

Scrambled eggs are pretty good, but you have to add milk or they smell gross. I haven't ate eggs in quite a while.

Brown sauce is like ketchup but full of other fruits and vegetables and with way more vinegar.

also, yes, pat of butter in the bottom of the pan for an over-easy or sunny-side-up egg. if your fried meat is greasy enough, just use the leftover fat from that, no butter necessary.

also, for scrambled eggs/omelettes/"spanish omelettes" aka "egg mess" I used to be a "1 Tbsp water : 1 egg" girl but now I am a total milk convert.

You should buy a pan with the little rings already in it. I don't think I've ever fired an egg. If I want eggs that way, I poach them in the microwave.

If theres a meal you can have brown sauce with I'll have it, its the one reason why couldnt with living in america, no brown sauce, thankfully they have it in canada.

I have issue with fried egg (I have issues with just about everything). You need to use enough oil, and not have the pan too hot. Otherwise it will stick and break, and then cannot be consumed my humans. That is just the way it is. Runny, perfect yoke, or in the bin it goes.
noodlezoop
noodlezoop on Jun 03 '08 at 7:54am
oh, oks, stubby.

P.S I have also heard it as "toad in a hole". I recommend a wide spatula if you want to try it. butter the top side of the bread, remove the egg spot with a cookie cutter (or water glass, or knife), put a pat of butter in the pan and melt it, put the bread in (butter-side UP), wait a bit for it to sizzle, crack the egg in, wait some more, flip the whole business and wait a teensy bit longer, serve. The trick is to toast the bread without overcooking the egg. And the trick to not overcooking eggs is to take them out just before they look done.

HP is the only sauce for a fry. Why the hell is a sauce named after the houses of parliament anyway?
