dangerous minds and freedom writers?

"Dangerous Minds is a 1995 drama film based on LouAnne Johnson's autobiographical account of her experience as a Marine who left her career to become a teacher at a well-off high school attended by bussed-in students from a ghetto."

A young teacher (Swank) inspires her class of at-risk students to learn tolerance, apply themselves, and pursue education beyond high school.

Does anyone else think their racist films in disguise? both feature a middle class white woman going into a predominatly black area thats incredibly working class. The middle class teacher struggles at first but then she finds ways of instilling middle class values into them and civilises them.

Just sounds like humdrum shmultz to me, just like how a typical middle class white girl ballerina goes to a street school and learns how to dance black - I'm sure that was a film recently. It's just bad stereotyping for the throwaway market film world.

i just figured the latter was ripping off the former.

you could also say that they are 'sexist' because 'it must be harder for a white woman to handle that kind of challenge.

but i don't think either one is really sexist or racist...and this is from the guy that still thinks the shirt 'you got some 'spainin' to do'

is based on lame racial humor.

Because it suggest's that white ideals and lifestyles are superior to other ways of life, it sort of seems like an updated form of the 19th centuary missionary going into africa to convert tribes to the british way of life.

Lean on Me is a ridiculously awesome movie. It was on a few days ago and I am sad that I missed it.

I heart Morgan Freeman. I think he is an excellent actor.
