New york christmas meet up! (confirmed!)

Whoa guys, its finnally confirmed thanks to the amazing Jen Raskopf who despite going through a really rough time has helped me out a bunch.

I'm getting the grey hound bus up to new york city from boston on the 18th of december and I'm going to be staying in a hostel called Times Square Beds on 39th street between 8th and 9th avenue.

I'm going to be in town until the 21st of december (but that day I'm flying up to toronto to head home).

I'd really like to have a big meet up on one day, but if you guys are about the other days I'm here that would be awsome as well it'd be great to have people to go around the city with.

I don't live in the city, but if we have a meet up we'll definitely be able to help you around that day!

It is actually quite easy to get around. If I can do it, you can do it. I'm not a genius or anything.

there's a hostel on amsterdam on like 106th street or something. you should look it up. it may help

Ok thanks, its just I'm going to be there for a couple of days and I dont really want to be going around new york city on my own, I'd be a bit nervous.

i totally understand. but, on a side note, i find there's no better way to enjoy the city than by wandering the streets on your own. i walked from prospect park to 110th street in manhattan during the blackout a few years ago and it was the most amazing experience of my ny ife.

I've no idea, the only thing I've got booked is my flight from jfk, i want to hit up to tourist attractions but I'd also like to go to the galleries and some of the shopping areas.

there's nothing to see at tourists attractions but other tourists. what you see on tv is pretty much all there is to see. just one man's opinion

My english friend stayed at a hostel uptown when he visited there for a day last christmas season. He said it was pretty nice and cheap. If you'd be interested in a hostel, I could find out where it was for you?

manhattan is suprisingly safe to wander around in, you shouldn't be too worried. maybe i can make it up there one of those days...

Hey Stubby, this is what my friend had to say:

i think it was called the broadway hotel and hostel, but it was quite far out of town near the top of central park on the west side. it looks like a hotel from the front but has dorm rooms inside, and was really cheap. why would you need a hostel in NY?

Hope it helps. I'm from New York, but go to school in Boston.

Also I'm traveling a really strange route to get to get home.

I'm flying from regina to toronto, to chicago, to manchester (new hampshire) then driving to boston, then getting the bus to new york city, flying out from jfk to toronto then flying home to manchester uk.

so i was just eating some frozen yogurt and i thought "man this is cold" which made me realize that if i cant handle eating cold frozen yogurt i think we should be inside a lot of the day. or i might freeze i hate winter. i dont hope it snows, i take that back.

Basically I'm not flying out of new york because when I booked the tickets to fly out of toronto I hadnt exactly worked out my plans and I needed a cheap ticket home, I knew that I was going to travel (hence I only booked from toronto and not regina) but after that I wasnt sure.

Orriginally I was going to spend the whole week (from the 15th) in new york with friends but they both had to work so I didnt have a place to stay.

theres no chance you can book the day off work?

I mean I'm around the whole time so we could meet up at night and go out, the problem is I'll still be under age by 8 (at the worst) and 5 days (at the best).

i can get in at either eight in the morning. . .or one fourty five in the afternoon.

i think i'd rather do the one fourty five since that way i dont have to wake up at four in the morning.

Yeah that would be cool, I mean I'm basically gonna want to go out as soon as I get there and make the most of my time but I'm probably only getting to the hostel at 2:30pm, the 19th might be better to get a full day.

Talking on the phone to Jen we came up with a few places I'd like to go, like the empire state building and the statue of liberty but I'd also like to go ice skating at the famous place and we were thinking of hitting up a few of the art galleries.

and of course some shopping.

but i get so overwhelmed in new york.

plus it's rare that i can ever afford anything i actually like.

but yea, i'd like to go anywhere, i just like doing things you know?
